The LORDGodsaidto the serpent,"Becauseyou have donethis,Cursedare you morethanallcattle,And morethaneverybeastof the field;On your bellyyou will go,And dustyou will eatAllthe daysof your life;
Now the serpentwas morecraftythananybeastof the fieldwhichthe LORDGodhad made.And he saidto the woman,"Indeed,has Godsaid,'You shall not eatfrom anytreeof the garden'?"
"Nowyou are cursedfrom the ground,whichhas openedits mouthto receiveyour brother'sbloodfrom your hand.
"Whoever shedsman'sblood,By manhis bloodshall be shed,For in the imageof GodHe mademan.
Let the nomadsof the desertbowbeforehim, And his enemieslickthe dust.
Then you will be broughtlow;From the earthyou will speak,And from the dust[where] you are prostrateYour words[will come]. Your voicewill also be like that of a spiritfrom the ground,And your speechwill whisperfrom the dust.
"The wolfand the lambwill grazetogether,and the lionwill eatstrawlike the ox;and dustwill be the serpent'sfood.They will donoevilor harmin allMy holymountain,"saysthe LORD.
You are therefore to makea distinctionbetweenthe cleananimaland the unclean,and betweenthe uncleanbirdand the clean;and you shall not makeyourselvesdetestableby animalor by birdor by anythingthat creepson the ground,whichI have separatedfor you as unclean.
They will lickthe dustlike a serpent,Like reptilesof the earth.They will cometremblingout of their fortresses;To the LORDour Godthey will comein dreadAnd they will be afraidbeforeYou.
