Whenyou makea vowto God,do not be latein payingit; for [He takes] nodelightin fools.Paywhatyou vow!
Then Jacobmadea vow,saying,"IfGodwill be with me and will keepme on thisjourneythat I take,and will giveme foodto eatand garmentsto wear,
Then Godsaidto Jacob,"Arise,goup to Betheland livethere,and makean altarthereto God,who appearedto you when you fledfrom your brotherEsau."
and let us ariseand goup to Bethel,and I will makean altarthereto God,who answeredme in the dayof my distressand has beenwith me whereverI have gone."
I shall paymy vowsto the LORD,Oh[may it be] in the presenceof allHis people.
I have swornand I will confirmit, That I will keepYour righteousordinances.
From You [comes] my praisein the greatassembly;I shall paymy vowsbeforethose who fearHim.
"Offerto Goda sacrificeof thanksgivingAnd payyour vowsto the MostHigh;
Makevowsto the LORDyour Godand fulfill[them]; Let allwho are aroundHim bringgiftsto Him whois to be feared.
It is a trapfor a manto sayrashly,"It is holy!"And afterthe vowsto makeinquiry.
Thus the LORDwill makeHimself knownto Egypt,and the Egyptianswill knowthe LORDin that day.They will even worshipwith sacrificeand offering,and will makea vowto the LORDand performit.
But I will sacrificeto You With the voiceof thanksgiving.That whichI have vowedI will pay.Salvationis from the LORD."
"Ohthat there were one among you who would shutthe gates,that you might not uselesslykindle[fire on] My altar!I am not pleasedwith you," saysthe LORDof hosts,"norwill I acceptan offeringfrom you.
"Ifa manmakesa vowto the LORD,ortakesan oathto bindhimselfwith a bindingobligation,he shall not violatehis word;he shall doaccording to allthat proceedsout of his mouth.
"Again,you have heardthat the ancientswere told,YOU SHALL NOT MAKE false VOWS,BUT SHALL FULFILLYOUR VOWSTO THE LORD.'
IN WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGSAND [sacrifices] FOR SINYOU HAVE TAKENNOPLEASURE.
When he sawher, he torehis clothesand said,"Alas,my daughter!You have broughtme verylow,and you are among those who troubleme; for I have givenmy wordto the LORD,and I cannottake[it] back."
