"Whenyou becomethe fatherof childrenand children'schildrenand have remainedlongin the land,and actcorruptly,and makean idolin the formof anything,and dothat whichis evilin the sightof the LORDyour God[so as] to provokeHim to anger,
He didevilin the sightof the LORD,according to the abominationsof the nationswhomthe LORDdispossessedbeforethe sonsof Israel.
For they provokedHim with their highplacesAnd aroused His jealousywith their gravenimages.
"You shall not makefor yourself an idol,or anylikenessof whatis in heavenaboveor on the earthbeneathor in the waterunderthe earth.
Then the LORDspoketo Moses,"Godownat once,for your people,whomyou broughtup from the landof Egypt,have corrupted[themselves].
So I enteredand looked,and behold,everyformof creepingthingsand beasts[and] detestablethings,with allthe idolsof the houseof Israel,were carvedon the wallallaround.
My Godwill castthem awayBecausethey have not listenedto Him; And they will be wanderersamong the nations.
They have gonedeepin depravityAs in the daysof Gibeah;He will remembertheir iniquity,He will punishtheir sins.
Ordo we provokethe Lordto jealousy?We are not strongerthan He, are we?
"You shall not setup for yourself a [sacred] pillarwhichthe LORDyour Godhates.
Cursedis the manwhomakesan idolor a moltenimage,an abominationto the LORD,the workof the handsof the craftsman,and sets[it] up in secret.'And allthe peopleshall answerand say,'Amen.'
"So allthesecursesshall comeon you and pursueyou and overtakeyou untilyou are destroyed,becauseyou would not obeythe LORDyour Godby keepingHis commandmentsand His statuteswhichHe commandedyou.
"Alsoeverysicknessand everyplaguewhich,not writtenin the bookof thislaw,the LORDwill bringon you untilyou are destroyed.
I declareto you todaythat you shall surelyperish.You will not prolong[your] daysin the landwhereyou are crossingthe Jordanto enterand possessit.
"I callheavenand earthto witnessagainst you today,that I have setbeforeyou lifeand death,the blessingand the curse.So chooselifein orderthat you may live,you and your descendants,
"For I knowthat aftermy deathyou will actcorruptlyand turnfrom the waywhichI have commandedyou; and evilwill befallyou in the latterdays,for you will dothat whichis evilin the sightof the LORD,provokingHim to angerwith the workof your hands."
"They have actedcorruptlytoward Him, [They are] not His children,because of their defect;[But are] a perverseand crookedgeneration.
sothat you do not actcorruptlyand makea gravenimagefor yourselves in the formof anyfigure,the likenessof maleorfemale,
"So watchyourselves, that you do not forgetthe covenantof the LORDyour GodwhichHe madewith you, and makefor yourselves a gravenimagein the formof anything[against] whichthe LORDyour Godhas commandedyou.
"When you transgressthe covenantof the LORDyour God,whichHe commandedyou, and goand serveothergodsand bowdownto them, then the angerof the LORDwill burnagainst you, and you will perishquicklyfrom offthe goodlandwhichHe has givenyou."
"Ifyou forsakethe LORDand serveforeigngods,then He will turnand doyou harmand consumeyou afterHe has donegoodto you."
