in the firstyearof his reign,I, Daniel, observedin the booksthe numberof the yearswhichwas [revealed as] the wordof the LORDto Jeremiahthe prophetfor the completionof the desolationsof Jerusalem,[namely], seventyyears.
to fulfillthe wordof the LORDby the mouthof Jeremiah, untilthe landhad enjoyedits sabbaths.Allthe daysof its desolationit keptsabbathuntil seventyyearswere complete.
Now in the firstyearof Cyruskingof Persia,in order to fulfillthe wordof the LORDby the mouthof Jeremiah, the LORDstirredup the spiritof Cyruskingof Persia,so that he senta proclamationthroughout allhis kingdom, and also[put it] in writing, saying:
Your testimoniesalsoare my delight;[They are] my counselors.Daleth.
Your holycitieshave becomea wilderness,Zionhas becomea wilderness,Jerusalema desolation.
The wordsof Jeremiahthe sonof Hilkiah,of the priestswhowere in Anathothin the landof Benjamin,
Jerusalemand the citiesof Judahand its kings[and] its princes,to makethem a ruin,a horror,a hissingand a curse,as it is thisday;
"Micahof Moreshethprophesiedin the daysof Hezekiahkingof Judah;and he spoketo allthe peopleof Judah, saying,'Thusthe LORDof hostshas said,"Zionwill be plowed[as] a field,And Jerusalemwill becomeruins,And the mountainof the houseas the highplacesof a forest."'
then I will makethishouselike Shiloh, and thiscityI will makea curseto allthe nationsof the earth."'"
"Allthe nationsshall servehim and his sonand his grandsonuntilthe timeof his own landcomes;then manynationsand greatkingswill makehim their servant.
"For thussaysthe LORD,'Whenseventyyearshave beencompletedfor Babylon,I will visityou and fulfillMy goodwordto you, to bringyou backto thisplace.
"Then I will make to ceasefrom the citiesof Judahand from the streetsof Jerusalemthe voiceof joyand the voiceof gladness, the voiceof the bridegroomand the voiceof the bride;for the landwill becomea ruin.
Howlonelysitsthe cityThat was fullof people! She has becomelike a widowWhowas [once] greatamong the nations! She who was a princessamong the provincesHas becomea forcedlaborer!
"A man'sfootwill not passthrough it, and the footof a beastwill not passthrough it, and it will not be inhabitedfor fortyyears.
So I gavemy attentionto the LordGodto seek[Him by] prayerand supplications, with fasting, sackclothand ashes.
Therefore,on accountof you Zionwill be plowedas a field,Jerusalemwill becomea heapof ruins,And the mountainof the temple[will become] highplacesof a forest.
Then the angelof the LORDsaid,"O LORDof hosts, howlongwill You havenocompassionfor Jerusalemand the citiesof Judah, with whichYou have beenindignanttheseseventyyears?"
"Sayto allthe peopleof the landand to the priests,'Whenyou fastedand mournedin the fifthand seventhmonths theseseventyyears, was it actuallyfor Me that you fasted?
"Thereforewhenyou seethe ABOMINATIONOF DESOLATIONwhich was spokenof throughDanielthe prophet, standingin the holyplace(let the readerunderstand),
"But whenyou seethe ABOMINATIONOF DESOLATIONstandingwhereit shouldnot be (let the readerunderstand),thenthosewhoare in Judeamust fleeto the mountains.
The eunuchansweredPhilipand said,"Please[tell me], of whomdoes the prophetsaythis?Of himselforof someoneelse?"
UntilI come, give attentionto the [public] reading[of Scripture], to exhortationand teaching.
Blessedis he who readsand thosewho hearthe wordsof the prophecy, and heedthe things which are writtenin it; for the timeis near.
