Then Amosrepliedto Amaziah,"I am not a prophet,noram I the sonof a prophet;for I am a herdsmanand a growerof sycamorefigs.
So he departedfrom thereand foundElishathe sonof Shaphat,while he was plowingwith twelvepairs[of oxen] beforehim, and he with the twelfth.And Elijahpassedoverto him and threwhis mantleon him.
Now a certainmanof the sonsof the prophetssaidto anotherby the wordof the LORD,"Pleasestrikeme." But the manrefusedto strikehim.
Now when the sonsof the prophetswho[were] at Jerichoopposite[him] sawhim, they said,"The spiritof Elijahrestson Elisha."And they cameto meethim and bowedthemselves to the groundbefore him.
Then the sonsof the prophetswho[were at] Bethelcameout to Elishaand saidto him, "Do you knowthat the LORDwill takeaway your masterfrom overyou today?"And he said,"Yes,I know;be still."
The sonsof the prophetswho[were] at JerichoapproachedElishaand saidto him, "Do you knowthat the LORDwill takeaway your masterfrom overyou today?"And he answered,"Yes,I know;be still."
Now fiftymenof the sonsof the prophetswentand stoodopposite[them] at a distance,while the twoof them stoodby the Jordan.
When Elishareturnedto Gilgal,[there was] a faminein the land.As the sonsof the prophetswere sittingbeforehim, he saidto his servant,"Puton the largepotand boilstewfor the sonsof the prophets."
Now the sonsof the prophetssaidto Elisha,"Beholdnow,the placebeforeyou wherewe are livingis toolimitedfor us.
At that timeHananithe seercameto Asakingof Judahand saidto him, "Because you have reliedon the kingof Aramand have not reliedon the LORDyour God,thereforethe armyof the kingof Aramhas escapedout of your hand.
Jehuthe sonof Hananithe seerwentout to meethim and saidto KingJehoshaphat,"Should you helpthe wickedand lovethose who hatethe LORDand so[bring] wrathon yourself from the LORD?
Now the restof the actsof Jehoshaphat,firstto last,behold,they are writtenin the annalsof Jehuthe sonof Hanani,whichis recordedin the Bookof the Kingsof Israel.
Who pluckmallowby the bushes,And whose foodis the rootof the broomshrub.
The wordsof Amos,whowas among the sheepherdersfrom Tekoa,whichhe envisionedin visionsconcerningIsraelin the daysof Uzziahkingof Judah,and in the daysof Jeroboamsonof Joash,kingof Israel,two yearsbeforethe earthquake.
A lionhas roared!Whowill not fear?The LordGODhas spoken!Whocan but prophesy?
but he will say,I am not a prophet;I am a tillerof the ground,for a mansoldme as a slave in my youth.'
but Godhas chosenthe foolish thingsof the worldto shamethe wise,and Godhas chosenthe weak thingsof the worldto shamethe things which are strong,
It cameabout, when allwho knewhim previouslysawthat he prophesiednowwith the prophets,that the peoplesaidto oneanother,"Whathas happenedto the sonof Kish?Is Saulalsoamong the prophets?"
