When Elishareturnedto Gilgal,[there was] a faminein the land.As the sonsof the prophetswere sittingbeforehim, he saidto his servant,"Puton the largepotand boilstewfor the sonsof the prophets."
When Jacobhad cookedstew,Esaucamein from the fieldand he was famished;
Now there was a faminein the daysof Davidfor threeyears,yearafteryear;and Davidsoughtthe presenceof the LORD.And the LORDsaid,"It is for Sauland his bloodyhouse,becausehe putthe Gibeonitesto death."
Now Elijahthe Tishbite,who was of the settlersof Gilead,saidto Ahab,"As the LORD,the Godof Israellives,beforewhomI stand,surelythere shall be neitherdewnor raintheseyears,exceptby my word."
And it cameabout when the LORDwas about to takeup Elijahby a whirlwindto heaven,that Elijahwentwith Elishafrom Gilgal.
Then the sonsof the prophetswho[were at] Bethelcameout to Elishaand saidto him, "Do you knowthat the LORDwill takeaway your masterfrom overyou today?"And he said,"Yes,I know;be still."
Now a certainwomanof the wivesof the sonsof the prophetscriedout to Elisha,"Your servantmy husbandis dead,and you knowthat your servantfearedthe LORD;and the creditorhas cometo takemy twochildrento be his slaves."
Then onewentout into the fieldto gatherherbs,and founda wildvineand gatheredfrom it his lapfullof wildgourds,and cameand slicedthem into the potof stew,for they did not know[what they were].
Now Elishaspoketo the womanwhosesonhe had restoredto life,saying,"Ariseand gowith your household,and sojournwhereveryou can sojourn;for the LORDhas calledfor a famine,and it will evencomeon the landfor sevenyears."
Who pluckmallowby the bushes,And whose foodis the rootof the broomshrub.
"Blessedis the manwho listensto me, Watchingdailyat my gates,Waitingat my doorposts.
who say,Is not [the time] nearto buildhouses?This[city] is the potand we are the flesh.'
Therefore,thussaysthe LordGOD,"Your slainwhomyou have laidin the midstof the city are the fleshand this[city] is the pot;but I will bringyou out of it.
"Sonof man,ifa countrysinsagainst Me by committingunfaithfulness,and I stretchout My handagainstit, destroyits supplyof bread,sendfamineagainst it and cutofffrom it both manand beast,
"Speaka parableto the rebellioushouseand sayto them, 'Thussaysthe LordGOD,"Puton the pot,put[it] on and alsopourwaterin it;
When I breakyour staffof bread,tenwomenwill bakeyour breadin oneoven,and they will bringbackyour breadin rationedamounts,so that you will eatand not be satisfied.
Then Amosrepliedto Amaziah,"I am not a prophet,noram I the sonof a prophet;for I am a herdsmanand a growerof sycamorefigs.
But He answeredthem, "You givethem [something] to eat!"And they saidto Him, "Shall we goand spendtwo hundreddenariion breadand givethem [something] to eat?"
She hada sistercalledMary,whowas seatedat the Lord'sfeet,listeningto His word.
Then,afterthreedaysthey foundHim in the temple,sittingin the midstof the teachers,bothlisteningto them and asking them questions.
"But I sayto you in truth,there were manywidowsin Israelin the daysof Elijah,whenthe skywas shutup for threeyearsand sixmonths,whena greatfaminecameoverallthe land;
[The people] wentout to seewhat had happened;and they cameto Jesus,and foundthe manfrom whomthe demonshad goneout, sitting downat the feetof Jesus,clothedand in his right mind;and they became frightened.
But the manfrom whomthe demonshad goneout was beggingHim that he might accompanyHim; but He sent him away,saying,
But He saidto them, "You givethem [something] to eat!"And they said,"We have nomorethanfiveloavesand twofish,unlessperhapswe goand buyfoodfor allthesepeople."
SoJesussaidto them, "Children,you do not haveanyfish,do you?" They answeredHim, "No."
Sowhenthey gotout on the land,they sawa charcoal fire[already] laidand fishplacedon it, and bread.
"[You know of] Jesusof Nazareth,howGodanointedHim with the HolySpiritand with power,and [how] He went aboutdoing goodand healingallwho were oppressedby the devil,for Godwas with Him.
AftersomedaysPaulsaidto Barnabas,"Let us returnand visitthe brethrenin everycityin whichwe proclaimedthe wordof the Lord,[and see] howthey are."
"I ama Jew,bornin Tarsusof Cilicia,but broughtup in thiscity,educatedunderGamaliel,strictlyaccordingto the lawof our fathers,beingzealousfor Godjustas you allare today.
Then Saulsentmessengersto takeDavid,but when they sawthe companyof the prophetsprophesying,with Samuelstanding[and] presidingoverthem, the Spiritof Godcameupon the messengersof Saul;and they alsoprophesied.
