"Becauseyour heartwas tenderand you humbledyourselfbeforeGodwhen you heardHis wordsagainstthisplaceand againstits inhabitants,and [because] you humbledyourselfbeforeMe, toreyour clothesand weptbeforeMe, I trulyhave heardyou," declaresthe LORD.
Then Davidtookholdof his clothesand torethem, and [so] also[did] allthe menwho[were] with him.
When the LORDsawthat they humbledthemselves, the wordof the LORDcameto Shemaiah,saying,"They have humbledthemselves [so] I will not destroythem, but I will grantthem some[measure] of deliverance,and My wrathshall not be pouredout on Jerusalemby meansof Shishak.
However, Hezekiahhumbledthe prideof his heart,both he and the inhabitantsof Jerusalem,so that the wrathof the LORDdid not comeon them in the daysof Hezekiah.
When he was in distress,he entreatedthe LORDhis Godand humbledhimself greatlybeforethe Godof his fathers.
When he prayedto Him, He was movedby his entreatyand heardhis supplication,and broughthim againto Jerusalemto his kingdom.Then Manassehknewthat the LORD[was] God.
His prayeralso and [how God] was entreatedby him, and allhis sin,his unfaithfulness,and the siteson whichhe builthighplacesand erectedthe Asherimand the carvedimages,beforehe humbledhimself, behold,they are writtenin the recordsof the Hozai.
When the kingheardthe wordsof the law,he torehis clothes.
"But to the kingof Judahwho sentyou to inquireof the LORD,thusyou will sayto him, 'Thussaysthe LORDGodof Israel[regarding] the wordswhichyou have heard,
"Behold,I will gatheryou to your fathersand you shall be gatheredto your gravein peace,so your eyeswill not seeallthe evilwhichI will bringon thisplaceand on its inhabitants."'"And they broughtbackwordto the king.
O LORD,You have heardthe desireof the humble;You will strengthentheir heart,You will inclineYour ear
The LORDis nearto the brokenheartedAnd savesthose whoare crushedin spirit.
The sacrificesof Godare a brokenspirit;A brokenand a contriteheart,O God,You will not despise.
The LORDhas heardmy supplication,The LORDreceivesmy prayer.
Mosesand Aaronwentto Pharaohand saidto him, "Thussaysthe LORD,the Godof the Hebrews,'Howlongwill you refuseto humbleyourself beforeMe? LetMy peoplego,that they may serveMe.
For thussaysthe highand exaltedOne Who livesforever,whose nameis Holy,"I dwell[on] a highand holyplace, And [also] with the contriteand lowlyof spiritIn order to revivethe spiritof the lowlyAnd to revivethe heartof the contrite.
"It will also cometo passthat beforethey call,I will answer;and while they are stillspeaking,I will hear.
"For My handmadeallthesethings,Thus allthesethingscameinto being,"declaresthe LORD."But to thisoneI will look,To him whois humbleand contriteof spirit,and whotremblesat My word.
Hearthe wordof the LORD,you whotrembleat His word:"Your brotherswho hateyou, who excludeyou for My name'ssake,Have said,'Let the LORDbe glorified,that we may seeyour joy.'But they will be putto shame.
"Moreover, I will giveyou a newheartand puta newspiritwithinyou; and I will removethe heartof stonefrom your fleshand giveyou a heartof flesh.
The LORDsaidto him, "Gothrough the midstof the city,[even] through the midstof Jerusalem,and puta markon the foreheadsof the menwho sighand groanoverallthe abominationswhich are being committedin its midst."
