"Nowthen send[and] gatherto me allIsraelat MountCarmel,[together] with 450prophetsof Baaland 400prophetsof the Asherah,who eatat Jezebel'stable."
He alsoremovedMaacahhis motherfrom [being] queenmother,becauseshe had madea horridimageas an Asherah;and Asacutdownher horridimageand burned[it] at the brookKidron.
Ahabalso madethe Asherah.Thus Ahabdidmoreto provokethe LORDGodof Israelthanallthe kingsof Israelwhowere beforehim.
So Ahabsent[a message] among allthe sonsof Israeland broughtthe prophetstogetherat MountCarmel.
Then Elijahsaidto the people,"I aloneam lefta prophetof the LORD,but Baal'sprophetsare 450men.
Then the kingof Israelgatheredthe prophetstogether, about fourhundredmen,and saidto them, "Shall I goagainstRamoth-gileadto battleorshall I refrain?"And they said,"Goup, for the Lordwill give[it] into the handof the king."
"Now,summonallthe prophetsof Baal,allhis worshipersand allhis priests;let noonebe missing,for I have a greatsacrificefor Baal;whoeveris missingshall not live."But Jehudidit in cunning,sothat he might destroythe worshipersof Baal.
Neverthelessthey did not turnawayfrom the sinsof the houseof Jeroboam,with whichhe made Israelsin,but walkedin them; and the Asherahalsoremained standingin Samaria.
He wentfrom thereto MountCarmel,and from therehe returnedto Samaria.
Now Elishasaidto the kingof Israel,"Whatdo I have to do with you? Goto the prophetsof your fatherand to the prophetsof your mother."And the kingof Israelsaidto him, "No,for the LORDhas calledthesethreekings[together] to givethem into the handof Moab."
When JoramsawJehu,he said,"Is it peace,Jehu?"And he answered,"Whatpeace,solongas the harlotriesof your motherJezebeland her witchcraftsare so many?"
Moreover, [there were] at my tableone hundredand fiftyJewsand officials,besides those who cameto us from the nationsthat were aroundus.
"Howbeautifuland howdelightfulyou are, [My] love,with [all] your charms!
"Moreover, among the prophetsof SamariaI sawan offensivething:They prophesiedby Baaland ledMy peopleIsraelastray.
"As I live,"declaresthe KingWhose nameis the LORDof hosts,"Surelyone shall come[who looms up] like Taboramong the mountains,Or like Carmelby the sea.
He said,"The LORDroarsfrom ZionAnd from JerusalemHe uttersHis voice;And the shepherds'pasturegroundsmourn,And the summitof Carmeldriesup."
"Thoughthey hideon the summitof Carmel,I will searchthem out and takethem from there;And thoughthey concealthemselves from My sighton the floorof the sea,From thereI will commandthe serpentand it will bitethem.
and Allammelechand Amadand Mishal;and it reachedto Carmelon the westand to Shihor-libnath.
But false prophetsalsoaroseamongthe people,justas there will alsobe false teachersamongyou, whowill secretly introducedestructiveheresies,evendenyingthe Masterwho boughtthem, bringingswiftdestructionupon themselves.
And the beastwas seized,and with him the false prophetwho performedthe signsin his presence,by whichhe deceivedthosewho had receivedthe markof the beastand thosewho worshipedhis image;thesetwowere thrownaliveinto the lakeof firewhich burnswith brimstone.
But I have[this] againstyou, that you toleratethe womanJezebel,who callsherselfa prophetess,and she teachesand leadsMy bond-servantsastrayso that they commit [acts of] immoralityand eatthings sacrificed to idols.
Samuelroseearlyin the morningto meetSaul;and it was toldSamuel,saying,"Saulcameto Carmel,and behold,he setup a monumentfor himself, then turnedand proceededon downto Gilgal."
