“And do not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the seeing one and twists the words of the righteous.
Wine is a scoffer, strong drink a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not wise.
Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who feels hurt without cause? Who has redness of eyes?
Not for sovereigns, O Lemu’ĕl, Not for sovereigns to drink wine, Nor for princes to desire strong drink;
Lest they drink and forget what is inscribed, And pervert the right of all the afflicted.
Then see! Joy and gladness, killing oxen and slaying sheep, eating meat and drinking wine, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”
No more do they drink wine with a song, strong drink is bitter to those who drink it.

Woe to those who rise early in the morning pursuing strong drink, who stay up late at night – wine inflames them!
“Come, let me bring wine and fill ourselves with strong drink. And tomorrow shall be as today, even much greater.”
