In truth, he set up a monument of stone, in the place where God had spoken to him, pouring out libations over it, and pouring oil,
May his name be blessed forever; may his name remain before the sun. And all the tribes of the earth will be blessed in him. All nations will magnify him.
And Moses built an altar. And he called its name, 'The Lord, my Exaltation.' For he said:
In that day, there will be an altar of the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt and a monument of the Lord beside its borders.
But having been aided by the help of God, even to this day, I stand witnessing to the small and the great, saying nothing beyond what the Prophets and Moses have said would be in the future:
He has rescued us, and he is rescuing us, from great peril. In him, we hope that he will continue to rescue us.
Similarly, Joshua positioned another twelve stones in the middle of the channel of the Jordan, where the priests stood who were carrying the ark of the covenant; and they are there, even to the present day.
Then Saul built an altar to the Lord. And so, it was then that he first began to build an altar to the Lord.
