2 Samuel 18 - King James Bible with Strong Numbers

1 H1732And DavidH6485numbered[H8799] H5971the peopleH7760that were with him, and set[H8799] H8269captainsH505of thousandsH8269and captainsH3967of hundreds over them.

2 H1732And DavidH7971sent forth[H8762] H7992a third partH5971of the peopleH3027under the handH3097of JoabH7992, and a third partH3027under the handH52of AbishaiH1121the sonH6870of ZeruiahH3097, Joab'sH251brotherH7992, and a third partH3027under the handH863of IttaiH1663the GittiteH4428. And the kingH559said[H8799] H5971unto the peopleH3318, I will surely[H8800] H3318go forth[H8799] H589with you myself also.

3 H5971But the peopleH559answered[H8799] H3318, Thou shalt not go forth[H8799] H5127: for if we flee[H8799] H5127away[H8800] H7760, they will not care[H8799] H3820 H2677for us; neither if halfH4191of us die[H8799] H7760, will they care[H8799] H3820 H3644for us: but now thou art worthH6235tenH505thousandH2896of us: therefore now it is betterH5826that thou succour[H8800] [H8675] H5826 [H8687] H5892us out of the city.

4 H4428And the kingH559said[H8799] H5869unto them, What seemethH3190you best[H8799] H6213I will do[H8799] H4428. And the kingH5975stood[H8799] H8179by the gateH3027sideH5971, and all the peopleH3318came out[H8804] H3967by hundredsH505and by thousands.

5 H4428And the kingH6680commanded[H8762] H3097JoabH52and AbishaiH863and IttaiH559, saying[H8800] H328, Deal gentlyH5288for my sake with the young manH53, even with AbsalomH5971. And all the peopleH8085heard[H8804] H4428when the kingH8269gave all the captainsH6680charge[H8763] H1697concerningH53Absalom.

6 H5971So the peopleH3318went out[H8799] H7704into the fieldH7125against[H8800] H3478IsraelH4421: and the battleH3293was in the woodH669of Ephraim;

7 H5971Where the peopleH3478of IsraelH5062were slain[H8735] H6440beforeH5650the servantsH1732of DavidH1419, and there was there a greatH4046slaughterH3117that dayH6242of twentyH505thousand men .

8 H4421For the battleH6327was there scattered[H8737] H6440over the faceH776of all the countryH3293: and the woodH398devoured[H8800] H7235more[H8686] H5971peopleH3117that dayH2719than the swordH398devoured[H8804] .

9 H53And AbsalomH7122met[H8735] H6440the servantsH5650 H1732of DavidH53. And AbsalomH7392rode[H8802] H6505upon a muleH6505, and the muleH935went[H8799] H7730under the thick boughsH1419of a greatH424oakH7218, and his headH2388caught hold[H8799] H424of the oakH5414, and he was taken up[H8714] H8064between the heavenH776and the earthH6505; and the muleH5674that was under him went away[H8804] .

10 H259And a certainH376manH7200saw[H8799] H5046it, and told[H8686] H3097JoabH559, and said[H8799] H7200, Behold, I saw[H8804] H53AbsalomH8518hanged[H8803] H424in an oak.

11 H3097And JoabH559said[H8799] H376unto the manH5046that told[H8688] H7200him, And, behold, thou sawest[H8804] H5221him, and why didst thou not smite[H8689] H776him there to the groundH5414? and I would have given[H8800] H6235thee tenH3701shekels of silverH259, and aH2290girdle.

12 H376And the manH559said[H8799] H3097unto JoabH3863, ThoughH8254I should receive[H8802] H505a thousandH3701shekels of silverH3709in mine handH7971, yet would I not put forth[H8799] H3027mine handH4428against the king'sH1121sonH241: for in our hearingH4428the kingH6680charged[H8765] H52thee and AbishaiH863and IttaiH559, saying[H8800] H8104, Beware[H8798] H5288that none touch the young manH53Absalom.

13 H176OtherwiseH6213I should have wrought[H8804] H8267falsehoodH5315against mine own lifeH1697: for there is no matterH3582hid[H8735] H4428from the kingH3320, and thou thyself wouldest have set[H8691]  thyself against me .

14 H559Then said[H8799] H3097JoabH3176, I may not tarry[H8686] H6440thus with theeH3947. And he took[H8799] H7969threeH7626dartsH3709in his handH8628, and thrust[H8799] H3820them through the heartH53of AbsalomH2416, while he was yet aliveH424in the midst of the oak.

15 H6235And tenH5288young menH5375that bare[H8802] H3097Joab'sH3627armourH5437compassed about[H8799] H5221and smote[H8686] H53AbsalomH4191, and slew[H8686]  him.

16 H3097And JoabH8628blew[H8799] H7782the trumpetH5971, and the peopleH7725returned[H8799] H7291from pursuing[H8800] H310afterH3478IsraelH3097: for JoabH2820held back[H8804] H5971the people.

17 H3947And they took[H8799] H53AbsalomH7993, and cast[H8686] H1419him into a greatH6354pitH3293in the woodH5324, and laid[H8686] H3966a veryH1419greatH1530heapH68of stonesH3478upon him: and all IsraelH5127fled[H8804] H376every oneH168to his tent.

18 H53Now AbsalomH2416in his lifetimeH3947had taken[H8804] H5324and reared up[H8686] H4678for himself a pillarH4428, which is in the king'sH6010daleH559: for he said[H8804] H1121, I have no sonH8034to keep my nameH2142in remembrance[H8687] H7121: and he called[H8799] H4678the pillarH8034after his own nameH7121: and it is called[H8735] H3117unto this dayH53, Absalom'sH3027place.

19 H559Then said[H8804] H290AhimaazH1121the sonH6659of ZadokH7323, Let me now run[H8799] H1319, and bearH4428the kingH1319tidings[H8762] H3068, how that the LORDH8199hath avenged[H8804] H3027him of his enemiesH341 [H8802] .

20 H3097And JoabH559said[H8799] H376unto him, ThouH1309shalt not bear tidingsH3117this dayH1319, but thou shalt bear tidings[H8765] H312anotherH3117dayH3117: but this dayH1319thou shalt bear no tidings[H8762] H4428, because the king'sH1121sonH4191is dead[H8804] .

21 H559Then said[H8799] H3097JoabH3569to CushiH3212, Go[H8798] H5046tell[H8685] H4428the kingH7200what thou hast seen[H8804] H3569. And CushiH7812bowed[H8691] H3097himself unto JoabH7323, and ran[H8799] .

22 H559Then said[H8799] H290AhimaazH1121the sonH6659of ZadokH3254yet again[H8686] H3097to JoabH4100, But howsoeverH7323, let me, I pray thee, also run[H8799] H310afterH3569CushiH3097. And JoabH559said[H8799] H7323, Wherefore wilt thou run[H8801] H1121, my sonH1309, seeing that thou hast no tidingsH4672ready[H8802] ?

23 H7323But howsoever, said he, let me run[H8799] H559. And he said[H8799] H7323unto him, Run[H8798] H290. Then AhimaazH7323ran[H8799] H1870by the wayH3603of the plainH5674, and overran[H8799] H3569Cushi.

24 H1732And DavidH3427sat[H8802] H8147between the twoH8179gatesH6822: and the watchman[H8802] H3212went up[H8799] H1406to the roofH8179over the gateH2346unto the wallH5375, and lifted up[H8799] H5869his eyesH7200, and looked[H8799] H376, and behold a manH7323running[H8801]  alone.

25 H6822And the watchman[H8802] H7121cried[H8799] H5046, and told[H8686] H4428the kingH4428. And the kingH559said[H8799] H1309, If he be alone, there is tidingsH6310in his mouthH3212. And he came[H8799] H1980apace[H8800] H7131, and drew near.

26 H6822And the watchman[H8802] H7200saw[H8799] H312anotherH376manH7323running[H8801] H6822: and the watchman[H8802] H7121called[H8799] H7778unto the porterH559, and said[H8799] H376, Behold another manH7323running[H8801] H4428alone. And the kingH559said[H8799] H1319, He also bringeth tidings[H8764] .

27 H6822And the watchman[H8802] H559said[H8799] H7200, Me thinketh[H8802] H4794the runningH7223of the foremostH4794is like the runningH290of AhimaazH1121the sonH6659of ZadokH4428. And the kingH559said[H8799] H2896, He is a goodH376manH935, and cometh[H8799] H2896with goodH1309tidings.

28 H290And AhimaazH7121called[H8799] H559, and said[H8799] H4428unto the kingH7965, All is wellH7812. And he fell down[H8691] H776to the earthH639upon his faceH4428before the kingH559, and said[H8799] H1288, Blessed[H8803] H3068be the LORDH430thy GodH5462, which hath delivered up[H8765] H582the menH5375that lifted up[H8804] H3027their handH113against my lordH4428the king.

29 H4428And the kingH559said[H8799] H5288, Is the young manH53AbsalomH7965safeH290? And AhimaazH559answered[H8799] H3097, When JoabH7971sent[H8800] H4428the king'sH5650servantH5650, and me thy servantH7200, I saw[H8804] H1419a greatH1995tumultH3045, but I knew[H8804]  not what it was .

30 H4428And the kingH559said[H8799] H5437unto him, Turn aside[H8798] H3320, and stand[H8690] H3541hereH5437. And he turned aside[H8735] H5975, and stood still[H8799] .

31 H3569And, behold, CushiH935came[H8802] H3569; and CushiH559said[H8799] H1319, Tidings[H8691] H113, my lordH4428the kingH3068: for the LORDH8199hath avenged[H8804] H3117thee this dayH3027of all themH6965that rose up[H8801]  against thee.

32 H4428And the kingH559said[H8799] H3569unto CushiH5288, Is the young manH53AbsalomH7965safeH3569? And CushiH559answered[H8799] H341, The enemies[H8802] H113of my lordH4428the kingH6965, and all that rise[H8804] H7451against thee to do thee hurtH5288, be as that young man is .

33 H4428And the kingH7264was much moved[H8799] H5927, and went up[H8799] H5944to the chamberH8179over the gateH1058, and wept[H8799] H3212: and as he went[H8800] H559, thus he said[H8804] H1121, O my sonH53AbsalomH1121, my sonH1121, my sonH53AbsalomH4191! would God I had died[H8800] H5414for thee[H8799] H53, O AbsalomH1121, my sonH1121, my son!
