³ H8269And the princesH1121of the childrenH5983of AmmonH559said[H8799] H2586unto HanunH113their lordH5869, ThinkestH1732thou that DavidH3513doth honour[H8764] H1thy fatherH7971, that he hath sent[H8804] H5162comforters[H8764] H1732unto thee? hath not DavidH7971rather sent[H8804] H5650his servantsH5668unto thee, toH2713search[H8800] H5892the cityH7270, and to spy it out[H8763] H2015, and to overthrow[H8800]  it?

⁷ H1732And when DavidH8085heard[H8799] H7971of it, he sent[H8799] H3097JoabH6635, and all the hostH1368of the mighty men.

⁸ H1121And the childrenH5983of AmmonH3318came out[H8799] H4421, and put the battleH6186in array[H8799] H6607at the entering inH8179of the gateH758: and the SyriansH6678of ZobaH7340, and of RehobH382, and IshtobH4601, and MaacahH905, were by themselvesH7704in the field.

⁹ H3097When JoabH7200saw[H8799] H6440that the frontH4421of the battleH6440was against him beforeH268and behindH977, he chose[H8799] H977of all the choice[H8803] H3478men of IsraelH6186, and put them in array[H8799] H7125against[H8800] H758the Syrians:

¹⁰ H3499And the restH5971of the peopleH5414he delivered[H8804] H3027into the handH52of AbishaiH251his brotherH6186, that he might put them in array[H8799] H7125against[H8800] H1121the childrenH5983of Ammon.

¹¹ H559And he said[H8799] H758, If the SyriansH2388be too strong[H8799] H3444for me, then thou shalt helpH1121me: but if the childrenH5983of AmmonH2388be too strong[H8799] H1980for thee, then I will come[H8804] H3467and help[H8687]  thee.

¹² H2388Be of good courage[H8798] H2388, and let us play the men[H8691] H5971for our peopleH5892, and for the citiesH430of our GodH3068: and the LORDH6213do[H8799] H5869that which seemethH2896him good.

¹³ H3097And JoabH5066drew nigh[H8799] H5971, and the peopleH4421that were with him, unto the battleH758against the SyriansH5127: and they fled[H8799] H6440before him.

¹⁴ H1121And when the childrenH5983of AmmonH7200saw[H8804] H758that the SyriansH5127were fled[H8804] H5127, then fled[H8799] H6440they also beforeH52AbishaiH935, and entered[H8799] H5892into the cityH3097. So JoabH7725returned[H8799] H1121from the childrenH5983of AmmonH935, and came[H8799] H3389to Jerusalem.

¹⁵ H758And when the SyriansH7200saw[H8799] H5062that they were smitten[H8738] H6440beforeH3478IsraelH622, they gathered[H8735] H3162themselves together.

¹⁶ H1928And HadarezerH7971sent[H8799] H3318, and brought out[H8686] H758the SyriansH5676that were beyondH5104the riverH935: and they came[H8799] H2431to HelamH7731; and ShobachH8269the captainH6635of the hostH1928of HadarezerH6440went before them.

¹⁷ H5046And when it was told[H8714] H1732DavidH622, he gatheredH3478all IsraelH622together[H8799] H5674, and passed over[H8799] H3383JordanH935, and came[H8799] H2431to HelamH758. And the SyriansH6186set themselves in array[H8799] H7125against[H8800] H1732DavidH3898, and fought[H8735]  with him.

¹⁸ H758And the SyriansH5127fled[H8799] H6440beforeH3478IsraelH1732; and DavidH2026slew[H8799] H7651the men of sevenH3967hundredH7393chariotsH758of the SyriansH705, and fortyH505thousandH6571horsemenH5221, and smote[H8689] H7731ShobachH8269the captainH6635of their hostH4191, who died[H8799]  there.

¹⁹ H4428And when all the kingsH5650that were servantsH1928to HadarezerH7200saw[H8799] H5062that they were smitten[H8738] H6440beforeH3478IsraelH7999, they made peace[H8686] H3478with IsraelH5647, and served[H8799] H758them. So the SyriansH3372feared[H8799] H3467to help[H8687] H1121the childrenH5983of Ammon any more.
