² H8147And he had twoH802wivesH8034; the nameH259of the oneH2584was HannahH8034, and the nameH8145of the otherH6444PeninnahH6444: and PeninnahH3206had childrenH2584, but HannahH3206had no children.

³ H1931And thisH376manH5927went up[H8804] H5892out of his cityH3117yearlyH3117 H7812to worship[H8692] H2076and to sacrifice[H8800] H3068unto the LORDH6635of hostsH7887in ShilohH8147. And the twoH1121sonsH5941of EliH2652, HophniH6372and PhinehasH3548, the priestsH3068of the LORD, were there.

⁴ H3117And when the timeH511was that ElkanahH2076offered[H8799] H5414, he gave[H8804] H6444to PeninnahH802his wifeH1121, and to all her sonsH1323and her daughtersH4490, portions:

⁵ H2584But unto HannahH5414he gave[H8799] H259aH639worthyH4490portionH157; for he loved[H8804] H2584HannahH3068: but the LORDH5462had shut up[H8804] H7358her womb.

⁶ H6869And her adversaryH3707also provoked[H8765] H3708her soreH7481, for to make her fret[H8687] H3068, because the LORDH5462had shut[H8804] H1157upH7358her womb.

⁷ H6213And as he did[H8799] H8141so yearH8141by yearH1767, whenH5927she went up[H8800] H1004to the houseH3068of the LORDH3707, so she provoked[H8686] H1058her; therefore she wept[H8799] H398, and did not eat[H8799] .

⁸ H559Then said[H8799] H511ElkanahH376her husbandH2584to her, HannahH1058, why weepest[H8799] H398thou? and why eatest[H8799] H3824thou not? and why is thy heartH3415grieved[H8799] H2896? am not I betterH6235to thee than tenH1121sons?

⁹ H2584So HannahH6965rose up[H8799] H310afterH398they had eaten[H8800] H7887in ShilohH310, and afterH8354they had drunk[H8800] H5941. Now EliH3548the priestH3427sat[H8802] H3678upon a seatH4201by a postH1964of the templeH3068of the LORD.

¹⁰ H4751And she was in bitternessH5315of soulH6419, and prayed[H8691] H3068unto the LORDH1058, and wept[H8799] H1058sore[H8800] .

¹¹ H5087And she vowed[H8799] H5088a vowH559, and said[H8799] H3068, O LORDH6635of hostsH7200, if thou wilt indeed[H8800] H7200look[H8799] H6040on the afflictionH519of thine handmaidH2142, and remember[H8804] H7911me, and not forget[H8799] H519thine handmaidH5414, but wilt give[H8804] H519unto thine handmaidH582a manH2233childH5414, then I will give[H8804] H3068him unto the LORDH3117all the daysH2416of his lifeH4177, and there shall no razorH5927come[H8799] H7218upon his head.

¹² H7235And it came to pass, as she continued[H8689] H6419praying[H8692] H6440beforeH3068the LORDH5941, that EliH8104marked[H8802] H6310her mouth.

¹³ H2584Now HannahH1696, she spake[H8764] H3820in her heartH8193; only her lipsH5128moved[H8801] H6963, but her voiceH8085was not heard[H8735] H5941: therefore EliH2803thought[H8799] H7910she had been drunken.

¹⁴ H5941And EliH559said[H8799] H7937unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken[H8691] H5493? put away[H8685] H3196thy wine from thee.

¹⁵ H2584And HannahH6030answered[H8799] H559and said[H8799] H113, No, my lordH802, I am a womanH7186of a sorrowfulH7307spiritH8354: I have drunk[H8804] H3196neither wineH7941nor strong drinkH8210, but have poured out[H8799] H5315my soulH6440beforeH3068the LORD.

¹⁶ H5414Count[H8799] H519not thine handmaidH6440forH1323a daughterH1100of BelialH7230: for out of the abundanceH7879of my complaintH3708and griefH1696have I spoken[H8765]  hitherto.

¹⁷ H5941Then EliH6030answered[H8799] H559and said[H8799] H3212, Go[H8798] H7965in peaceH430: and the GodH3478of IsraelH5414grant[H8799] H7596thee thy petitionH7592that thou hast asked[H8804]  of him.

¹⁸ H559And she said[H8799] H8198, Let thine handmaidH4672find[H8799] H2580graceH5869in thy sightH802. So the womanH3212went[H8799] H1870her wayH398, and did eat[H8799] H6440, and her countenance was no more sad .

¹⁹ H7925And they rose upH1242in the morningH7925early[H8686] H7812, and worshipped[H8691] H6440beforeH3068the LORDH7725, and returned[H8799] H935, and came[H8799] H1004to their houseH7414to RamahH511: and ElkanahH3045knew[H8799] H2584HannahH802his wifeH3068; and the LORDH2142remembered[H8799]  her.

²⁰ H3117Wherefore it came to pass, when the timeH8622was comeH2584about after HannahH2029had conceived[H8799] H3205, that she bare[H8799] H1121a sonH7121, and called[H8799] H8034his nameH8050SamuelH7592, saying, Because I have asked[H8804] H3068him of the LORD.

²¹ H376And the manH511ElkanahH1004, and all his houseH5927, went up[H8799] H2076to offer[H8800] H3068unto the LORDH3117the yearlyH2077sacrificeH5088, and his vow.

²² H2584But HannahH5927went not up[H8804] H559; for she said[H8804] H376unto her husbandH5288, I will not go up until the childH1580be weaned[H8735] H935, and then I will bring[H8689] H7200him, that he may appear[H8738] H6440beforeH3068the LORDH3427, and there abide[H8804] H5704forH5769ever.

²³ H511And ElkanahH376her husbandH559said[H8799] H6213unto her, Do[H8798] H5869what seemethH2896thee goodH3427; tarry[H8798] H1580until thou have weaned[H8800] H3068him; only the LORDH6965establish[H8686] H1697his wordH802. So the womanH3427abode[H8799] H1121, and gave her sonH3243suck[H8686] H1580until she weaned[H8800]  him.

²⁴ H1580And when she had weaned[H8804] H5927him, she took him up[H8686] H7969with her, with threeH6499bullocksH259, and oneH374ephahH7058of flourH5035, and a bottleH3196of wineH935, and brought[H8686] H1004him unto the houseH3068of the LORDH7887in ShilohH5288: and the childH5288was young.

²⁵ H7819And they slew[H8799] H6499a bullockH935, and brought[H8686] H5288the childH5941to Eli.

²⁶ H559And she said[H8799] H994, OhH113my lordH5315, as thy soulH2416livethH113, my lordH802, I am the womanH5324that stood[H8737] H6419by thee here, praying[H8692] H3068unto the LORD.

²⁷ H5288For this childH6419I prayed[H8694] H3068; and the LORDH5414hath given[H8799] H7596me my petitionH7592which I asked[H8804]  of him:

²⁸ H7592Therefore also I have lent[H8689] H3068him to the LORDH3117; as long as he livethH7592he shall be lent[H8803] H3068to the LORDH7812. And he worshipped[H8691] H3068the LORD there.
