² H7121And he cried[H8799] H4196against the altarH1697in the wordH3068of the LORDH559, and said[H8799] H4196, O altarH4196, altarH559, thus saith[H8804] H3068the LORDH1121; Behold, a childH3205shall be born[H8737] H1004unto the houseH1732of DavidH2977, JosiahH8034by nameH2076; and upon thee shall he offer[H8804] H3548the priestsH1116of the high placesH6999that burn incense[H8688] H120upon thee, and men'sH6106bonesH8313shall be burnt[H8799]  upon thee.

³ H5414And he gave[H8804] H4159a signH3117the same dayH559, saying[H8800] H4159, This is the signH3068which the LORDH1696hath spoken[H8765] H4196; Behold, the altarH7167shall be rent[H8738] H1880, and the ashesH8210that are upon it shall be poured out[H8738] .

⁴ H4428And it came to pass, when kingH3379JeroboamH8085heard[H8800] H1697the sayingH376of the manH430of GodH7121, which had cried[H8804] H4196against the altarH1008in BethelH7971, that he put forth[H8799] H3027his handH4196from the altarH559, saying[H8800] H8610, Lay hold[H8798] H3027on him. And his handH7971, which he put forth[H8804] H3001against him, dried up[H8799] H3201, so that he could[H8804] H7725not pull it in again[H8687]  to him.

⁵ H4196The altarH7167also was rent[H8738] H1880, and the ashesH8210poured out[H8735] H4196from the altarH4159, according to the signH376which the manH430of GodH5414had given[H8804] H1697by the wordH3068of the LORD.

⁶ H4428And the kingH6030answered[H8799] H559and said[H8799] H376unto the manH430of GodH2470, Intreat[H8761] H6440now the faceH3068of the LORDH430thy GodH6419, and pray[H8690] H3027for me, that my handH7725may be restored me again[H8799] H376. And the manH430of GodH2470besought[H8762] H6440 H3068the LORDH4428, and the king'sH3027handH7725was restored him again[H8799] H7223, and became as it was before.

⁷ H4428And the kingH1696said[H8762] H376unto the manH430of GodH935, Come[H8798] H1004homeH5582with me, and refresh[H8798] H5414thyself, and I will give[H8799] H4991thee a reward.

⁸ H376And the manH430of GodH559said[H8799] H4428unto the kingH5414, If thou wilt give[H8799] H2677me halfH1004thine houseH935, I will not go in[H8799] H398with thee, neither will I eat[H8799] H3899breadH8354nor drink[H8799] H4325waterH4725in this place:

⁹ H6680For so was it charged[H8765] H1697me by the wordH3068of the LORDH559, saying[H8800] H398, Eat[H8799] H3899no breadH8354, nor drink[H8799] H4325waterH7725, nor turn again[H8799] H1870by the same wayH1980that thou camest[H8804] .

¹⁰ H3212So he went[H8799] H312anotherH1870wayH7725, and returned[H8804] H1870not by the wayH935that he came[H8804] H1008to Bethel.

¹¹ H3427Now there dwelt[H8802] H259anH2205oldH5030prophetH1008in BethelH1121; and his sonsH935came[H8799] H5608and told[H8762] H4639him all the worksH376that the manH430of GodH6213had done[H8804] H3117that dayH1008in BethelH1697: the wordsH1696which he had spoken[H8765] H4428unto the kingH5608, them they told[H8762] H1also to their father.

¹² H1And their fatherH1696said[H8762] H1870unto them, What wayH1980went[H8804] H1121he? For his sonsH7200had seen[H8799] H335whatH1870wayH376the manH430of GodH1980went[H8804] H935, which came[H8804] H3063from Judah.

¹³ H559And he said[H8799] H1121unto his sonsH2280, Saddle[H8798] H2543me the assH2280. So they saddled[H8799] H2543him the assH7392: and he rode[H8799]  thereon,

¹⁴ H3212And went[H8799] H310afterH376the manH430of GodH4672, and found[H8799] H3427him sitting[H8802] H424under an oakH559: and he said[H8799] H376unto him, Art thou the manH430of GodH935that camest[H8804] H3063from JudahH559? And he said[H8799] , I am .

¹⁵ H559Then he said[H8799] H3212unto him, Come[H8798] H1004homeH398with me, and eat[H8798] H3899bread.

¹⁶ H559And he said[H8799] H3201, I may[H8799] H7725not return[H8800] H935with thee, nor go in[H8800] H398with thee: neither will I eat[H8799] H3899breadH8354nor drink[H8799] H4325waterH4725with thee in this place:

¹⁷ H1697For it was saidH1697to me by the wordH3068of the LORDH398, Thou shalt eat[H8799] H3899no breadH8354nor drink[H8799] H4325waterH7725there, nor turn again[H8799] H3212to go[H8800] H1870by the wayH1980that thou camest[H8804] .

¹⁸ H559He said[H8799] H5030unto him, I am a prophetH4397also as thou art; and an angelH1696spake[H8765] H1697unto me by the wordH3068of the LORDH559, saying[H8800] H7725, Bring him back[H8685] H1004with thee into thine houseH398, that he may eat[H8799] H3899breadH8354and drink[H8799] H4325waterH3584. But he lied[H8765]  unto him.

¹⁹ H7725So he went back[H8799] H398with him, and did eat[H8799] H3899breadH1004in his houseH8354, and drank[H8799] H4325water.

²⁰ H3427And it came to pass, as they sat[H8802] H7979at the tableH1697, that the wordH3068of the LORDH5030came unto the prophetH7725that brought him back[H8689] :

²¹ H7121And he cried[H8799] H376unto the manH430of GodH935that came[H8804] H3063from JudahH559, saying[H8800] H559, Thus saith[H8804] H3068the LORDH3282, Forasmuch asH4784thou hast disobeyed[H8804] H6310the mouthH3068of the LORDH8104, and hast not kept[H8804] H4687the commandmentH3068which the LORDH430thy GodH6680commanded[H8765]  thee,

²² H7725But camest back[H8799] H398, and hast eaten[H8799] H3899breadH8354and drunk[H8799] H4325waterH4725in the placeH1696, of the which the LORD did say[H8765] H398to thee, Eat[H8799] H3899no breadH8354, and drink[H8799] H4325no waterH5038; thy carcaseH935shall not come[H8799] H6913unto the sepulchreH1of thy fathers.

²³ H310And it came to pass, afterH398he had eaten[H8800] H3899breadH310, and afterH8354he had drunk[H8800] H2280, that he saddled[H8799] H2543for him the assH5030, to wit, for the prophetH7725whom he had brought back[H8689] .

²⁴ H3212And when he was gone[H8799] H738, a lionH4672met[H8799] H1870him by the wayH4191, and slew[H8686] H5038him: and his carcaseH7993was cast[H8716] H1870in the wayH2543, and the assH5975stood[H8802] H681byH738it, the lionH5975also stood[H8802] H5038by the carcase.

²⁵ H582And, behold, menH5674passed by[H8802] H7200, and saw[H8799] H5038the carcaseH7993cast[H8716] H1870in the wayH738, and the lionH5975standing[H8802] H681byH5038the carcaseH935: and they came[H8799] H1696and told[H8762] H5892it in the cityH2205where the oldH5030prophetH3427dwelt[H8802] .

²⁶ H5030And when the prophetH7725that brought him back[H8689] H1870from the wayH8085heard[H8799] H559thereof, he said[H8799] H376, It is the manH430of GodH4784, who was disobedient[H8804] H6310unto the wordH3068of the LORDH3068: therefore the LORDH5414hath delivered[H8799] H738him unto the lionH7665, which hath torn[H8799] H4191him, and slain[H8686] H1697him, according to the wordH3068of the LORDH1696, which he spake[H8765]  unto him.

²⁷ H1696And he spake[H8762] H1121to his sonsH559, saying[H8800] H2280, Saddle[H8798] H2543me the assH2280. And they saddled[H8799]  him .

²⁸ H3212And he went[H8799] H4672and found[H8799] H5038his carcaseH7993cast[H8716] H1870in the wayH2543, and the assH738and the lionH5975standing[H8802] H681byH5038the carcaseH738: the lionH398had not eaten[H8804] H5038the carcaseH7665, nor torn[H8804] H2543the ass.

²⁹ H5030And the prophetH5375took up[H8799] H5038the carcaseH376of the manH430of GodH3240, and laid[H8686] H2543it upon the assH7725, and brought it back[H8686] H2205: and the oldH5030prophetH935came[H8799] H5892to the cityH5594, to mourn[H8800] H6912and to bury[H8800]  him.

³⁰ H3240And he laid[H8686] H5038his carcaseH6913in his own graveH5594; and they mourned[H8799] H1945over him, saying, AlasH251, my brother!

³¹ H310And it came to pass, afterH6912he had buried[H8800] H559him, that he spake[H8799] H1121to his sonsH559, saying[H8800] H4191, When I am dead[H8800] H6912, then bury[H8804] H6913me in the sepulchreH376wherein the manH430of GodH6912is buried[H8803] H3240; lay[H8685] H6106my bonesH681besideH6106his bones:

³² H1697For the sayingH7121which he cried[H8804] H1697by the wordH3068of the LORDH4196against the altarH1008in BethelH1004, and against all the housesH1116of the high placesH5892which are in the citiesH8111of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.

³³ H310AfterH1697this thingH3379JeroboamH7725returned[H8804] H7451not from his evilH1870wayH6213, but made[H8799] H7725again[H8799] H7098of the lowestH5971of the peopleH3548priestsH1116of the high placesH2655: whosoever wouldH4390, he consecrated[H8762] H3027 H3548him, and he became one of the priestsH1116of the high places.

³⁴ H1697And this thingH2403became sinH1004unto the houseH3379of JeroboamH3582, even to cut it off[H8687] H8045, and to destroy[H8687] H6440it from off the faceH127of the earth.
