² H3379And it came to pass, when JeroboamH1121the sonH5028of NebatH4714, who was yet in EgyptH8085, heard[H8800] H1272of it, (for he was fled[H8804] H6440from the presenceH4428of kingH8010SolomonH3379, and JeroboamH3427dwelt[H8799] H4714in Egypt;)

³ H7971That they sent[H8799] H7121and called[H8799] H3379him. And JeroboamH6951and all the congregationH3478of IsraelH935came[H8799] H1696, and spake[H8762] H7346unto RehoboamH559, saying[H8800] ,

⁴ H1Thy fatherH7185madeH5923our yokeH7185grievous[H8689] H7186: now therefore make thou the grievousH5656serviceH1of thy fatherH3515, and his heavyH5923yokeH5414which he put[H8804] H7043upon us, lighter[H8685] H5647, and we will serve[H8799]  thee.

⁵ H559And he said[H8799] H3212unto them, Depart[H8798] H7969yet for threeH3117daysH7725, then come again[H8798] H5971to me. And the peopleH3212departed[H8799] .

⁶ H4428And kingH7346RehoboamH3289consulted[H8735] H2205with the old menH5975, that stood[H8802] H6440beforeH8010SolomonH1his fatherH2416while he yet livedH559, and said[H8800] H3289, How do ye advise[H8737] H7725that I may[H8687] H1697answerH5971this people?

⁷ H1696And they spake[H8762] H559unto him, saying[H8800] H5650, If thou wilt be a servantH5971unto this peopleH3117this dayH5647, and wilt serve[H8804] H6030them, and answer[H8804] H1696them, and speak[H8765] H2896goodH1697wordsH5650to them, then they will be thy servantsH3117for ever.

⁸ H5800But he forsook[H8799] H6098the counselH2205of the old menH3289, which they had given[H8804] H3289him, and consulted[H8735] H3206with the young menH1431that were grown up[H8804] H5975with him, and which stood[H8802] H6440before him:

⁹ H559And he said[H8799] H3289unto them, What counsel give[H8737] H7725ye that we may[H8686] H1697answerH5971this peopleH1696, who have spoken[H8765] H559to me, saying[H8800] H7043, MakeH5923the yokeH1which thy fatherH5414did put[H8804] H7043upon us lighter[H8685] ?

¹⁰ H3206And the young menH1431that were grown up[H8804] H1696with him spake[H8762] H559unto him, saying[H8800] H559, Thus shalt thou speak[H8799] H5971unto this peopleH1696that spake[H8765] H559unto thee, saying[H8800] H1, Thy fatherH3513madeH5923our yokeH3513heavy[H8689] H7043, but make thou it lighter[H8685] H1696unto us; thus shalt thou say[H8762] H6995unto them, My littleH5666finger shall be thicker[H8804] H1than my father'sH4975loins.

¹¹ H1And now whereas my fatherH6006did lade[H8689] H3515you with a heavyH5923yokeH3254, I will add[H8686] H5923to your yokeH1: my fatherH3256hath chastised[H8765] H7752you with whipsH3256, but I will chastise[H8762] H6137you with scorpions.

¹² H3379So JeroboamH5971and all the peopleH935came[H8799] H7346to RehoboamH7992the thirdH3117dayH4428, as the kingH1696had appointed[H8765] H559, saying[H8800] H7725, Come to me again[H8798] H7992the thirdH3117day.

¹³ H4428And the kingH6030answered[H8799] H5971the peopleH7186roughlyH5800, and forsook[H8799] H2205the old men'sH6098counselH3289that they gave[H8804]  him;

¹⁴ H1696And spake[H8762] H6098to them after the counselH3206of the young menH559, saying[H8800] H1, My fatherH3513madeH5923your yokeH3513heavy[H8689] H3254, and I will add[H8686] H5923to your yokeH1: my fatherH3256also chastised[H8765] H7752you with whipsH3256, but I will chastise[H8762] H6137you with scorpions.

¹⁵ H4428Wherefore the kingH8085hearkened[H8804] H5971not unto the peopleH5438; for the causeH3068was from the LORDH6965, that he might perform[H8687] H1697his sayingH3068, which the LORDH1696spake[H8765] H3027byH281AhijahH7888the ShiloniteH3379unto JeroboamH1121the sonH5028of Nebat.

¹⁶ H7725So[H8686] H3478when all IsraelH7200saw[H8799] H4428that the kingH8085hearkened[H8804] H5971not unto them, the peopleH1697answeredH4428the kingH559, saying[H8800] H2506, What portionH1732have we in DavidH5159? neither have we inheritanceH1121in the sonH3448of JesseH168: to your tentsH3478, O IsraelH7200: now see[H8798] H1004to thine own houseH1732, DavidH3478. So IsraelH3212departed[H8799] H168unto their tents.

¹⁷ H1121But as for the childrenH3478of IsraelH3427which dwelt[H8802] H5892in the citiesH3063of JudahH7346, RehoboamH4427reigned[H8799]  over them.

¹⁸ H4428Then kingH7346RehoboamH7971sent[H8799] H151AdoramH4522, who was over the tributeH3478; and all IsraelH7275stoned[H8799] H68him with stonesH4191, that he died[H8799] H4428. Therefore kingH7346RehoboamH553made speed[H8694] H5927to get him up[H8800] H4818to his chariotH5127, to flee[H8800] H3389to Jerusalem.

¹⁹ H3478So IsraelH6586rebelled[H8799] H1004against the houseH1732of DavidH3117unto this day.

²⁰ H3478And it came to pass, when all IsraelH8085heard[H8800] H3379that JeroboamH7725was come again[H8804] H7971, that they sent[H8799] H7121and called[H8799] H5712him unto the congregationH4427, and made him king[H8686] H3478over all IsraelH310: there was none that followedH1004the houseH1732of DavidH2108, butH7626the tribeH3063of Judah only.

²¹ H7346And when RehoboamH935was come[H8799] H3389to JerusalemH6950, he assembled[H8686] H1004all the houseH3063of JudahH7626, with the tribeH1144of BenjaminH3967, an hundredH8084and fourscoreH505thousandH977chosen men[H8803] H6213, which were warriors[H8802] H4421 H3898, to fight[H8736] H1004against the houseH3478of IsraelH7725, to bringH4410the kingdomH7725again[H8687] H7346to RehoboamH1121the sonH8010of Solomon.

²² H1697But the wordH430of GodH8098came unto ShemaiahH376the manH430of GodH559, saying[H8800] ,

²³ H559Speak[H8798] H7346unto RehoboamH1121, the sonH8010of SolomonH4428, kingH3063of JudahH1004, and unto all the houseH3063of JudahH1144and BenjaminH3499, and to the remnantH5971of the peopleH559, saying[H8800] ,

²⁴ H559Thus saith[H8804] H3068the LORDH5927, Ye shall not go up[H8799] H3898, nor fight[H8735] H251against your brethrenH1121the childrenH3478of IsraelH7725: return[H8798] H376every manH1004to his houseH1697; for this thingH1961is[H8738] H8085from me. They hearkened[H8799] H1697therefore to the wordH3068of the LORDH7725, and returned[H8799] H3212to depart[H8800] H1697, according to the wordH3068of the LORD.

²⁵ H3379Then JeroboamH1129built[H8799] H7927ShechemH2022in mountH669EphraimH3427, and dwelt[H8799] H3318therein; and went out[H8799] H1129from thence, and built[H8799] H6439Penuel.

²⁶ H3379And JeroboamH559said[H8799] H3820in his heartH4467, Now shall the kingdomH7725return[H8799] H1004to the houseH1732of David:

²⁷ H5971If this peopleH5927go up[H8799] H6213to do[H8800] H2077sacrificeH1004in the houseH3068of the LORDH3389at JerusalemH3820, then shall the heartH5971of this peopleH7725turn again[H8804] H113unto their lordH7346, even unto RehoboamH4428kingH3063of JudahH2026, and they shall kill[H8804] H7725me, and go again[H8804] H7346to RehoboamH4428kingH3063of Judah.

²⁸ H4428Whereupon the kingH3289took counsel[H8735] H6213, and made[H8799] H8147twoH5695calvesH2091of goldH559, and said[H8799] H7227unto them, It is too muchH5927for you to go up[H8800] H3389to JerusalemH430: behold thy godsH3478, O IsraelH5927, which brought thee up[H8689] H776out of the landH4714of Egypt.

²⁹ H7760And he set[H8799] H259the oneH1008in BethelH259, and the otherH5414put[H8804] H1835he in Dan.

³⁰ H1697And this thingH2403became a sinH5971: for the peopleH3212went[H8799] H6440to worship beforeH259the oneH1835, even unto Dan.

³¹ H6213And he made[H8799] H1004an houseH1116of high placesH6213, and made[H8799] H3548priestsH7098of the lowestH5971of the peopleH1121, which were not of the sonsH3878of Levi.

³² H3379And JeroboamH6213ordained[H8799] H2282a feastH8066in the eighthH2320monthH2568, on the fifteenthH6240 H3117dayH2320of the monthH2282, like unto the feastH3063that is in JudahH5927, and he offered[H8686] H4196upon the altarH6213. So did[H8804] H1008he in BethelH2076, sacrificing[H8763] H5695unto the calvesH6213that he had made[H8804] H5975: and he placed[H8689] H1008in BethelH3548the priestsH1116of the high placesH6213which he had made[H8804] .

³³ H5927So he offered[H8686] H4196upon the altarH6213which he had made[H8804] H1008in BethelH2568the fifteenthH6240 H3117dayH8066of the eighthH2320monthH2320, even in the monthH908which he had devised[H8804] H3820of his own heartH6213; and ordained[H8799] H2282a feastH1121unto the childrenH3478of IsraelH5927: and he offered[H8686] H4196upon the altarH6999, and burnt incense[H8687] .
