Ezekiel 19 - Easy To Read Version

¹ \{God said to me,\} “You must sing this sad song about the leaders of Israel.

² “‘Your mother is like a female lion\par lying there with the male lions.\par She went to lie down with\par the young male lions,\par and had many babies.\par

³ One of her cubs gets up.\par He has grown to be a strong young lion.\par He has learned to catch his food.\par He killed and ate a man.\par

⁴ The people heard him roar.\par And they caught him in their trap!\par They put hooks in his mouth,\par and carried the young lion to Egypt.\par

⁵ “‘The mother lion had hoped that cub would become the leader.\par But now she lost all hope.\par So she took another of her cubs.\par She trained him to be a lion.\par

⁶ He went on hunts with the adult lions.\par He became a strong young lion.\par He learned to catch his food.\par He killed and ate a man.\par

⁷ He attacked the palaces.\par He destroyed the cities.\par Every one in that country was too scared\par to speak when they heard his growl.\par

⁸ Then the people living around him\par set a trap for him.\par And they caught him in their trap.\par

⁹ They put hooks on him and locked him up.\par They had him in their trap.\par So they took him to the king of Babylon.\par And now, you can’t hear his roar\par on the mountains of Israel.\par

¹⁰ “‘Your mother is like a grapevine\par planted near the water.\par She had plenty of water,\par so she grew many strong vines.\par

¹¹ Then she grew large branches.\par They were like a strong walking stick.\par They were like a king’s scepter. {\cf2\super [136]} \par The vine grew taller and taller.\par It had many branches\par and reached to the clouds.\par

¹² But the vine was pulled up by the roots,\par and thrown down to the ground.\par The hot east wind blew and dried its fruit.\par The strong branches broke.\par And they were thrown into the fire.\par

¹³ Now that grapevine is planted in the desert.\par It is a very dry and thirsty land.\par

¹⁴ A fire started in the large branch\par and spread to destroy all of its\par vines and fruit.\par So there was no strong walking stick.\par There was no king’s scepter.’ {\cf2\super [137]} \par
