A wicked man receives a bribe in secret, to pervert the ways of justice.


Your princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves. Everyone loves bribes, and follows after rewards. They don't judge the fatherless, neither does the cause of the widow come to them.


(for they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves on the God of Yisra'el; the LORD of Armies is his name):


who acquit the guilty for a bribe, but deny justice for the innocent!


Yes, the dogs are greedy, they can never have enough; and these are shepherds who can't understand: they have all turned to their own way, each one to his gain, from every quarter.


They say continually to those who despise me, the LORD has said, You shall have shalom; and to everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart they say, No evil shall come on you.


The Kohanim and the prophets and all the people heard Yirmeyahu speaking these words in the house of the LORD.


They have denied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come on us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:


For from the least of them even to the greatest of them everyone is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even to the Kohen everyone deals falsely.


Don't you trust in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, are these.


Therefore will I give their wives to others, and their fields to those who shall possess them: for everyone from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness; from the prophet even to the Kohen every one deals falsely.


In you have they taken bribes to shed blood; you have taken interest and increase, and you have greedily gained of your neighbors by oppression, and have forgotten me, says the Lord GOD.


Her princes in the midst of it are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, [and] to destroy souls, that they may get dishonest gain.


Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Yisra'el, prophesy, and tell them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord GOD: Woe to the shepherds of Yisra'el who feed themselves! Shouldn't the shepherds feed the sheep?


Their drink has become sour. They play the prostitute continually. Her rulers dearly love their shameful way.


They feed on the sin of my people, and set their heart on their iniquity.


Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so the LORD, the God Tzeva'ot, will be with you, as you say.


All the sinners of my people will die by the sword, who say, 'Evil won't overtake nor meet us.'


Thus says the LORD concerning the prophets who lead my people astray; for those who feed their teeth, they proclaim, *Shalom!* and whoever doesn't provide for their mouths, they prepare war against him:


Their hands are on that which is evil to do it diligently. The ruler and judge ask for a bribe; and the powerful man dictates the evil desire of his soul. Thus they conspire together.


Her princes in the midst of her are roaring lions. Her judges are evening wolves. They leave nothing until the next day.


Her prophets are arrogant and treacherous people. Her Kohanim have profaned the sanctuary. They have done violence to the law.


*Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you,* says the LORD of Armies, *neither will I accept an offering at your hand.


*Therefore I have also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according to the way you have not kept my ways, but have had respect for persons in the law.


Moshe was very angry, and said to the LORD, *Don't respect their offering: I have not taken one donkey from them, neither have I hurt one of them.*


The elders of Mo'av and the elders of Midyan departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came to Bil`am, and spoke to him the words of Balak.

Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion, but voluntarily, not for dishonest gain, but willingly;


Woe to them! For they went in the way of Kayin, and ran riotously in the error of Bil`am for hire, and perished in Korach's rebellion.


His sons didn't walk in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted justice.
