Then the Pharisees {\cf2\super [42]} left and made plans with the Herodians {\cf2\super [43]} about a way to kill Jesus.
The Pharisees and the teachers of the law became very, very angry. They talked to each other about what they could do to Jesus.
The Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent some priests and Levites {\cf2\super [8]} to John. {\cf2\super [9]} The Jews sent them to ask, “Who are you?”
The Jewish leaders tried to get Jesus again. But Jesus escaped from them.
Remember the lesson I told you: A servant is not greater than his master. If people did wrong to me, then they will do wrong to you too. And if people obeyed my teaching, then they will obey yours too.
So some Jews said to the man that had been healed, “Today is the Sabbath. It is against our law for you to carry your bed on the Sabbath day.”
But the man that had been healed did not know who the person was. There were many people in that place, and Jesus had left.
Then the man left and went back to those Jews. The man told them that Jesus was the one that made him well.
But Jesus said to the Jews, “My Father never stops working. And so I work too.”
This made these Jews try harder to kill him. \{The Jews said\}, “First this man (Jesus) was breaking the law about the Sabbath day. {\cf2\super [80]} Then he said that God is his Father! He is making himself equal with God!”
Jesus said to them, “I did one miracle {\cf2\super [106]} \{on a Sabbath day {\cf2\super [107]} \} and you were all surprised.
Then some of the people that lived in Jerusalem said, “This is the man they are trying to kill.
