18 This made these Jews try harder to kill him. \{The Jews said\}, “First this man (Jesus) was breaking the law about the Sabbath day. {\cf2\super [80]} Then he said that God is his Father! He is making himself equal with God!”

The Lord All-Powerful says, “Sword, hit the shepherd! Hit my friend! Hit the shepherd and the sheep will run away. And I will punish those little ones.


And you have read in the law \{of Moses\} that on every Sabbath day {\cf2\super [154]} the priests at the temple {\cf2\super [155]} break the law about the Sabbath day. But the priests are not wrong for doing that.


The Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent some priests and Levites {\cf2\super [8]} to John. {\cf2\super [9]} The Jews sent them to ask, “Who are you?”


The Jews answered, “We are not killing you for any good thing you did. But you say things that are against God. You are only a man, but you say you are the same as God! That is why we are trying to kill you with rocks!”


Jesus answered, “If any person loves me, then he will obey my teaching. My Father will love that person. My Father and I will come to that person and live with him.


Jesus answered, “Philip, I have been with you for a long time. So you should know me. The person that has seen me has seen the Father too. So why do you say, ‘Show us the Father’?


The Jewish leaders answered, “We have a law that says he must die, because he said that he is the Son of God.”


Then the man left and went back to those Jews. The man told them that Jesus was the one that made him well.


Jesus was doing these things (healing) on the Sabbath day. {\cf2\super [79]} So the Jews began to do bad things to Jesus.


But Jesus said to the Jews, “My Father never stops working. And so I work too.”


God did this so that all people will respect the Son the same as they respect the Father. If a person does not respect the Son, then that person does not respect the Father. The Father is the One who sent the Son.


After this, Jesus traveled around the country of Galilee. Jesus did not want to travel in Judea, because the Jewish leaders there wanted to kill him.


Moses gave you the law. {\cf2\super [104]} Right? But none of you obey that law. Why are you trying to kill me?”


Jesus answered, “If I give honor to myself, then that honor is worth nothing. The One that gives me honor is my Father. And you say that he is your God.


Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth. Before Abraham {\cf2\super [149]} was born, I AM. {\cf2\super [150]} ”


Christ himself was like God in everything. Christ was equal with God. But Christ did not think that being equal with God was something that he must keep.


Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life. The river was bright like crystal. The river flows from the throne of God and the Lamb.


Nothing that God judges guilty will be there in that city. The throne of God and the Lamb (Jesus) will be in the city. God’s servants will worship him.
