If a person is wise,\par he will remember these things.\par Then he will begin to understand\par what God’s love really is.\par


A cow knows its master.\par And a donkey knows the place where its owner feeds it.\par But the people of Israel don’t know me.\par My people don’t understand.”\par


Then they will come every day\par to worship me.\par And they will want to learn my ways.\par They will become a nation that lives right.\par They will not quit following\par God’s good commands.\par They will ask me to judge them fairly.\par They will want to go to God\par \{for his fair decisions\}.\par


Then the Lord said, “Go and tell this to the people: ‘Listen closely, but don’t understand! Look closely, but don’t learn!’


Who can I speak to?\par Who can I warn?\par Who will listen to me?\par The people of Israel have closed their ears,\par so they can’t hear my warnings.\par The people don’t like the Lord’s teachings.\par They don’t want to hear his message.\par


So they come to you like they are my people. They sit in front of you like they are my people. They hear your words. But they won’t do the things you say. They only want to do what feels good. They only want to cheat people and make more money.


“‘You are nothing to these people but a singer singing love songs. You have a good voice. You play your instrument well. They hear your words, but they won’t do the things you say.


None of the people I led out of Egypt will ever see the land of Canaan. Those people saw my glory and the great signs that I did in Egypt. And they saw the great things that I did in the desert. But they disobeyed me and tested me ten times.


This is why I use these stories to teach the people: The people see, but they don’t really see. The people hear, but they don’t really understand.


You teach other people. So why don’t you teach yourself? You tell people not to steal. But you yourselves steal.


But you must be careful! Be sure that as long as you live you never forget the things you have seen. You must teach those things to your children and grandchildren.
