Joab said to Abishai, “If the army from Aram is too strong for me, then you must help me. But if the Ammonite army is too strong for you, then I will help you.


“If you see an animal that can’t walk because it has too much to carry, you must stop and help that animal. You must help that animal even if it belongs to one of your enemies.


“I will tell you the kind of special day I want—a day to make people free. I want a day that you take the burdens off people. I want a day when you make the troubled people free. I want a day when you take the burdens from their shoulders.


Jesus did these things to make happen what Isaiah the prophet {\cf2\super [95]} said:


Jesus answered, “It will be bad for you, you teachers of the law! You make strict rules that are very hard for people to obey. {\cf2\super [212]} You try to force other people to obey those rules. But you yourselves don’t even try to follow any of those rules.


“I give you a new command: Love each other. You must love each other like I loved you.


This is what I command you: Love each other like I have loved you.


We are strong with faith. So we should help the people who are weak. We should help those people with their weaknesses. We should not try to please ourselves.


Why? Because in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit {\cf2\super [58]} that brings life made you {\cf2\super [59]} free. It made you {\cf2\super [60]} free from the law that brings sin and death.


To those that are without the law I became like a person that is without the law. I did this to help save those people that are without the law. (But really, I am not without God’s law—I am ruled by the law of Christ.)


Each person must accept his own responsibility.


But I couldn’t take care of you and solve all your arguments by myself.


We ask you, brothers and sisters, to warn those people who don’t work. Encourage the people who are afraid. Help the people who are weak. Be patient with every person.


But you must not be like that. You must carefully study God’s perfect law that makes people free. You must continue to study it. You must listen to God’s teaching and not forget what you heard. Then you must obey what God’s teaching says. When you do this, it will make you truely happy.


You will be judged by the law that makes people free. You should remember this in everything you say and do.


One law rules over all other laws. This royal law is found in the Scriptures {\cf2\super [4]} : “Love other people the same as you love yourself.” {\cf2\super [5]} If you obey this law, then you are doing right.


Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross. He did this so that we would stop living for sin and live for what is right. By his (Christ’s) wounds you were healed.


Yes, it would be better for those people to have never known the right way. That would be better than to know the right way and then to turn away from the holy teaching that was given to them.


I want you to remember the words that the holy prophets {\cf2\super [11]} spoke in the past. And remember the command that our Lord and Savior gave us. He gave us that command through your apostles. {\cf2\super [12]}


And he (God) gave us this command: The person who loves God must also love his brothers and sisters \{in Christ\}.
