The king says, ‘Don’t let Hezekiah fool you! He can’t save you from my power!’


Hezekiah sent Eliakim (Eliakim was in charge of the king’s house), Shebna (the secretary), and the elders of the priests to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz. They wore the rough cloth {that showed they were sad and upset}.


The commander’s master, the king of Assyria, has sent him to say bad things about the living God. Maybe the Lord your God will hear all those things. Maybe the Lord will punish the enemy! So pray for the people that are still left alive.’”


Lord, you punish people for doing wrong\par to teach them the right way to live.\par Like a moth destroys cloth,\par you destroy the things people love.\par Yes, our lives are like a small cloud \{that quickly disappears\}.\par \i (SELAH {\cf2\super [240]})\i0 \par


God says,\par “Don’t be stubborn,\par like you were at Meribah, {\cf2\super [526]} \par like you were at Massah {\cf2\super [527]} in the desert.\par


\{In the same way,\} I will not cause pain without allowing something new to be born.”


\{His punishment\} will be like the pain a woman feels giving birth.\par He will not be a wise son.\par The time will come for his birth,\par and he will not survive.\par


I will go back to my place,\par until the people admit they are guilty,\par until they come looking for me.\par Yes, in their trouble they will try hard\par to find me.”\par
