Psalm 39 - Easy To Read Version

¹ I said,\par “I will be careful about the things I say.\par I will not let my tongue cause me to sin.\par I will keep my mouth closed {\cf2\super [235]} when I am around wicked people.”\par

² So I didn’t say anything.\par I didn’t even say anything good!\par But I became even more upset.\par

³ I was very angry.\par And the more I thought about it,\par the angrier I became.\par So I said something.\par

⁴ Lord, tell me, what will happen to me now?\par Tell me, how long will I live?\par Let me know how short my life really is.\par

⁵ Lord, you gave me only a short life. {\cf2\super [236]} \par My short life is nothing,\par compared to you.\par Every person’s life is only like a cloud\par \{that quickly disappears\}.\par No person lives forever! {\cf2\super [237]} \par \i (SELAH {\cf2\super [238]})\i0 \par

⁶ Our life is like an image \{in a mirror\}. {\cf2\super [239]} \par We rush through life collecting things,\par but we don’t know who will get them\par \{after we die\}.\par

⁷ So, Master, what hope do I have?\par You are my hope!\par

⁸ Lord, save me from the bad things I did.\par Don’t let me be treated like a fool.\par

⁹ I will not open my mouth.\par I will not say anything.\par Lord, you did what should be done.\par

¹⁰ But God, stop punishing me.\par You will destroy me if you don’t stop!\par

¹¹ Lord, you punish people for doing wrong\par to teach them the right way to live.\par Like a moth destroys cloth,\par you destroy the things people love.\par Yes, our lives are like a small cloud \{that quickly disappears\}.\par \i (SELAH {\cf2\super [240]})\i0 \par

¹² Lord, hear my prayer!\par Listen to the words I cry to you.\par Look at my tears.\par I am only a traveler\par passing through this life with you.\par Like all my ancestors, I live here only\par a short time. {\cf2\super [241]} \par

¹³ Lord, leave me alone {\cf2\super [242]} \par and let me be happy\par before I am dead and gone.\par
