But Barzillai said to the king, “Do you know how old I am? Do you think I can go with you to Jerusalem?

A person’s life is like a puff of air.\par A person’s life is like a passing shadow.\par

Remember how short my life is:\par You created us to live a short life,\par and then die.\par


Teach us how short our lives really are,\par so we can become really wise.\par


Everything is so meaningless. The Teacher says that it is all a waste of time! {\cf2\super [1]}


But then I looked at all the things I had done. I thought about all the hard work I did. I decided it was all a waste of time! It was like trying to catch the wind. {\cf2\super [8]} There is nothing to gain from all the things we do in this life.


Compared to God,\par all the nations of the world are nothing.\par Compared to God,\par all the nations are worth nothing at all.\par


You don’t know what will happen tomorrow! Your life is like a fog. You can see it for a short time, but then it goes away.


But don’t forget this one thing, dear friends: To the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day.
