1 Praise the Lord!\par Thank the Lord because he is good!\par God’s love is forever!\par 2 No person can describe\par how great the Lord really is.\par No person can praise God enough.\par 3 People who obey God’s commands are happy.\par Those people do good things all the time.\par 4 Lord, remember me when you are kind\par to your people.\par Remember to save me, too!\par 5 Lord, let me share in the good things\par you do for your chosen people.\par Let me rejoice with your nation.\par Let me join with your people in praise.\par 6 We sinned just like our ancestors {\cf2\super [553]} sinned.\par We were wrong, we did bad things!\par 7 Lord, our ancestors in Egypt learned nothing\par from the miracles you did.\par There by the Red Sea,\par our ancestors turned against you.\par 8 But God saved our ancestors {\cf2\super [554]} \par for his own name’s sake.\par God saved them to show his great power.\par 9 God gave the command,\par and the Red Sea became dry.\par God led our ancestors through the deep sea,\par on land as dry as the desert.\par 10 God saved our ancestors from their enemies!\par God rescued them from their enemies.\par 11 God covered their enemies with the sea.\par Not one of their enemies escaped!\par 12 Then our ancestors {\cf2\super [555]} believed God.\par They sang praises to him.\par 13 But our ancestors quickly forgot about the things God did.\par They did not listen to God’s advice.\par 14 Our ancestors became hungry in the desert.\par And they tested God in the wilderness.\par 15 But God gave our ancestors the things they asked for.\par But God also gave them a terrible disease.\par 16 The people became jealous of Moses.\par They became jealous of Aaron,\par the Lord’s holy priest.\par 17 So God punished those jealous people.\par The ground opened up\par and swallowed Dathan.\par Then the ground closed up\par and covered Abiram’s group.\par 18 Then a fire burned that mob of people.\par That fire burned those wicked people.\par 19 Those people made a golden calf\par at Mount Horeb.\par They worshiped a statue!\par 20 Those people traded their glorious God,\par for a statue of a grass-eating bull!\par 21 God saved our ancestors. {\cf2\super [556]} \par But they forgot all about him.\par They forgot about the God who did\par the miracles in Egypt.\par 22 God did amazing things in Ham’s country. {\cf2\super [557]} \par God did awesome things near the Red Sea!\par 23 God wanted to destroy those people.\par But Moses, the man he chose,\par stopped him.\par God was very angry,\par but Moses blocked the way,\par so God did not destroy the people. {\cf2\super [558]} \par 24 But then those people refused to go\par into the wonderful land of Canaan.\par They did not believe God would help them\par defeat the people living in that land.\par 25 Our ancestors {\cf2\super [559]} refused to obey God!\par 26 So God swore that they would die\par in the desert.\par 27 God promised that he would let\par other people defeat their descendants. {\cf2\super [560]} \par God promised he would scatter our ancestors among the nations.\par 28 Then at Baal Peor,\par God’s people joined in worshiping Baal.\par God’s people \{joined in the wild parties\par and\} ate sacrifices to honor dead people. {\cf2\super [561]} \par 29 God became very angry at his people,\par and God made them become very sick.\par 30 But Phinehas prayed {\cf2\super [562]} to God,\par and God stopped the sickness.\par 31 God knew Phinehas did a very good thing.\par God will remember this forever and ever.\par 32 At Meribah, the people became angry.\par And they made Moses do something bad.\par 33 Those people made Moses very upset,\par so Moses spoke without stopping to think.\par 34 The Lord told the people to destroy\par the other nations living in Canaan.\par But the people of Israel did not obey God.\par 35 They mixed with the other people,\par and did what those people were doing.\par 36 Those people became a trap to God’s people.\par God’s people began worshiping the gods\par those other people worshiped.\par 37 God’s people even killed their own children,\par and offered the children to those devils.\par 38 God’s people killed innocent people.\par They killed their own children\par and offered them to those false gods.\par 39 So God’s people became dirty with the sins of those other people.\par God’s people were unfaithful to their God\par and did the things those other people did.\par 40 God became angry at his people.\par God was fed up with them!\par 41 God gave his people to other nations.\par God let their enemies rule over them.\par 42 The enemies of God’s people controlled them and made life hard for them.\par 43 God saved his people many times.\par But they turned against God\par and did what they wanted to do.\par God’s people did many, many bad things.\par 44 But whenever God’s people were in trouble,\par \{they always called to God for help\}.\par And God listened to their prayers every time.\par 45 God always remembered his Agreement {\cf2\super [563]} \par and comforted them with his great love.\par 46 Other nations took them as prisoners.\par But God made them be kind to his people.\par 47 The Lord our God saved us!\par God brought us back from those nations\par so we could praise his holy name,\par so we could sing praises to him.\par 48 Bless the Lord God of Israel.\par God has always lived,\par and he will live forever.\par And all the people said,\par “Amen! {\cf2\super [564]} \par Praise the Lord!”\par |
