3 Job, you have taught many people.\par You gave strength to weak hands.\par 4 Your words helped people\par who were ready to fall.\par You gave strength to people\par who couldn’t stand by themselves.\par 5 But now trouble comes to you,\par and you are discouraged.\par Trouble hits you,\par and you are upset!\par 6 You worship God.\par You trust him.\par You are a good man.\par So let that be your hope.\par 7 Job, think about this:\par No innocent person was ever destroyed.\par Good people are never destroyed.\par 8 I have seen some troublemakers\par and people who make life hard.\par But they are always punished!\par 9 God’s punishment kills those people.\par God’s anger destroys them.\par 10 The bad people roar and growl like lions.\par But God makes the bad people be quiet,\par and God breaks their teeth.\par 11 Yes, those bad people are like lions\par that can’t find animals to kill.\par They die and their children wander away.\par 12 “A message was brought to me in secret.\par My ears caught a whisper of it.\par 13 Like a bad dream in the night,\par it ruined my sleep.\par 14 I was afraid, and shook.\par All my bones shook!\par 15 A ghost passed by my face.\par The hair on my body stood up!\par 16 The spirit stood still,\par but I could not see what it was.\par A shape stood before my eyes,\par and there was silence.\par Then I heard a very quiet voice:\par 17 ‘A person can’t be more right than God.\par Man can’t be more pure than his Maker.\par 18 Look, God can’t even trust\par his heavenly servants.\par God sees problems even in his angels.\par 19 So surely people are worse!\par People live in houses of clay. {\cf2\super [11]} \par The foundations of these houses of clay\par are in the dirt.\par They are crushed to death\par more easily than a moth!\par 20 People die from dawn to sunset,\par and no one even notices.\par They die and are gone forever.\par 21 The ropes of their tent are pulled up,\par |
