Contrast the Upright and the Wicked

¹ A false balanceis an abominationto the LORD,But a justweightis His delight.

² When pridecomes,then comesdishonor,But with the humbleis wisdom.

³ The integrityof the uprightwill guidethem, But the crookednessof the treacherouswill destroythem.

⁴ Richesdo not profitin the dayof wrath,But righteousnessdeliversfrom death.

⁵ The righteousnessof the blamelesswill smoothhis way,But the wickedwill fallby his own wickedness.

⁶ The righteousnessof the uprightwill deliverthem, But the treacherouswill be caughtby [their own] greed.

⁷ When a wickedmandies,[his] expectationwill perish,And the hopeof strongmenperishes.

⁸ The righteousis deliveredfrom trouble,But the wickedtakeshis place.

⁹ With [his] mouththe godlessmandestroyshis neighbor,But through knowledgethe righteouswill be delivered.

¹⁰ When it goes wellwith the righteous,the cityrejoices,And when the wickedperish,there is joyfulshouting.

¹¹ By the blessingof the uprighta cityis exalted,But by the mouthof the wickedit is torndown.

¹² He who despiseshis neighborlackssense,But a manof understandingkeepssilent.

¹³ He who goesabout as a talebearerrevealssecrets,But he who is trustworthyconcealsa matter.

¹⁴ Where thereis noguidancethe peoplefall,But in abundanceof counselorsthere is victory.

¹⁵ He who is guarantorfor a strangerwill surelysufferfor it, But he who hatesbeing a guarantoris secure.

¹⁶ A graciouswomanattainshonor,And ruthlessmenattainriches.

¹⁷ The mercifulmandoeshimselfgood,But the cruelmandoeshimselfharm.

¹⁸ The wickedearnsdeceptivewages,But he who sowsrighteousness[gets] a true reward.

¹⁹ He whois steadfastin righteousness[will attain] to life,And he who pursuesevil[will bring about] his own death.

²⁰ The perversein heartare an abominationto the LORD,But the blamelessin [their] walkare His delight.

²¹ Assuredly,the evilmanwill not gounpunished,But the descendantsof the righteouswill be delivered.

²² [As] a ringof goldin a swine'ssnout[So is] a beautifulwomanwho lacksdiscretion.

²³ The desireof the righteousis onlygood,[But] the expectationof the wickedis wrath.

²⁴ Thereis one who scatters,and [yet] increasesallthe more,And there is one who withholdswhatis justlydue,[and yet it results] onlyin want.

²⁵ The generousmanwill be prosperous,And he who waterswill himselfbe watered.

²⁶ He who withholdsgrain,the peoplewill cursehim, But blessingwill be on the headof him who sells[it].

²⁷ He who diligentlyseeksgoodseeksfavor,But he who seeksevil,evil will cometo him.

²⁸ He who trustsin his richeswill fall,But the righteouswill flourishlike the [green] leaf.

²⁹ He who troubleshis own housewill inheritwind,And the foolishwill be servantto the wisehearted.

³⁰ The fruitof the righteousis a treeof life,And he who is wisewinssouls.

³¹ Ifthe righteouswill be rewardedin the earth,Howmuchmorethe wickedand the sinner!
