For they provokedHim with their highplacesAnd aroused His jealousywith their gravenimages.
and had commandedhim concerningthisthing,that he should not goafterothergods;but he did not observewhatthe LORDhad commanded.
ThenSolomonbuilta highplacefor Chemoshthe detestableidolof Moab,on the mountainwhichis eastof Jerusalem,and for Molechthe detestableidolof the sonsof Ammon.
And he madehouseson highplaces,and madepriestsfrom among allthe peoplewhowere not of the sonsof Levi.
The sonsof Israeldidthingssecretlywhichwere not rightagainstthe LORDtheir God.Moreover, they builtfor themselves highplacesin alltheir towns,from watchtowerto fortifiedcity.
Then he setthe carvedimageof Asherahthat he had made,in the houseof whichthe LORDsaidto Davidand to his sonSolomon,"In thishouseand in Jerusalem,whichI have chosenfrom allthe tribesof Israel,I will putMy nameforever.
Moreover,he madehighplacesin the mountainsof Judah,and caused the inhabitantsof Jerusalemto playthe harlotand ledJudahastray.
Howlong,O LORD?Will You be angryforever?Will Your jealousyburnlikefire?
Let allthose be ashamedwho servegravenimages,Who boastthemselves of idols;WorshipHim, allyou gods.
for you shall not worshipanyothergod,for the LORD,whose nameis Jealous,is a jealousGod--
Behold,listen!The cryof the daughterof my peoplefrom a distantland:"Is the LORDnot in Zion?Is her Kingnot within her?" "Whyhave they provokedMe with their gravenimages,with foreignidols?"
And nowthey sinmoreand more,And makefor themselves moltenimages,Idolsskillfullymade from their silver,Allof them the workof craftsmen.They sayof them, "Let the menwho sacrificekissthe calves!"
I then will destroyyour highplaces,and cutdownyour incensealtars,and heapyour remainson the remainsof your idols,for My soulshall abhoryou.
then you shall driveout allthe inhabitantsof the landfrom beforeyou, and destroyalltheir figuredstones,and destroyalltheir moltenimagesand demolishalltheir highplaces;
Ordo we provokethe Lordto jealousy?We are not strongerthan He, are we?
"You shall utterlydestroyallthe placeswherethe nationswhomyou shall dispossessservetheir gods,on the highmountainsand on the hillsand undereverygreentree.
"You shall not actlikethistoward the LORDyour God.
Cursedis the manwhomakesan idolor a moltenimage,an abominationto the LORD,the workof the handsof the craftsman,and sets[it] up in secret.'And allthe peopleshall answerand say,'Amen.'
They have madeMe jealouswith [what] is not God;They have provokedMe to angerwith their idols.So I will make them jealouswith [those who] are not a people;I will provokethem to angerwith a foolishnation,
Then the sonsof Israelagaindidevilin the sightof the LORD,servedthe Baalsand the Ashtaroth,the godsof Aram,the godsof Sidon,the godsof Moab,the godsof the sonsof Ammon,and the godsof the Philistines;thus they forsookthe LORDand did not serveHim.
Yetthey did not listento their judges,for they playedthe harlotafterothergodsand bowedthemselves downto them. They turnedasidequicklyfrom the wayin whichtheir fathershad walkedin obeyingthe commandmentsof the LORD;they didnot doas [their fathers].
So the angerof the LORDburnedagainst Israel,and He said,"Becausethisnationhas transgressedMy covenantwhichI commandedtheir fathersand has not listenedto My voice,
But he himselfturnedbackfrom the idolswhichwere at Gilgal,and said,"I have a secretmessagefor you, O king."And he said,"Keepsilence."And allwho attendedhim lefthim.
