Then they despisedthe pleasantland;They did not believein His word,
Then JacobgaveEsaubreadand lentilstew;and he ateand drank,and roseand wenton his way.Thus Esaudespisedhis birthright.
"Then I said,'HowI would setyou among My sonsAnd giveyou a pleasantland,The mostbeautifulinheritanceof the nations!'And I said,'You shall callMe, My Father,And not turnawayfrom followingMe.'
on that dayI sworeto them, to bringthem out from the landof Egyptinto a landthat I had selectedfor them, flowingwith milkand honey,whichis the gloryof alllands.
So they gaveout to the sonsof Israela badreportof the landwhichthey had spiedout, saying,"The landthroughwhichwe have gone,in spyingit out, is a landthat devoursits inhabitants;and allthe peoplewhomwe sawin it are menof [great] size.
The LORDsaidto Moses,"Howlongwill thispeoplespurnMe? And howlongwill they not believein Me, despite allthe signswhichI have performedin their midst?
Allthe sonsof IsraelgrumbledagainstMosesand Aaron;and the wholecongregationsaidto them, "Wouldthat we had diedin the landof Egypt!Orwouldthat we had diedin thiswilderness!
Your children,however, whomyou saidwould becomea prey--I will bringthem in, and they will knowthe landwhichyou have rejected.
"Onlydo not rebelagainst the LORD;and do not fearthe peopleof the land,for they will be our prey.Their protectionhas been removedfrom them, and the LORDis with us; do not fearthem."
"But they paid no attentionand went their way,oneto his ownfarm,anotherto his business,
"Yet you were not willingto goup, but rebelledagainstthe commandof the LORDyour God;
"But for all this,you did not trustthe LORDyour God,
"When the LORDsentyou from Kadesh-barnea,saying,Goup and possessthe landwhichI have givenyou,' then you rebelledagainstthe commandof the LORDyour God;you neitherbelievedHim norlistenedto His voice.
that [there be] noimmoralorgodless personlikeEsau,whosoldhis ownbirthrightfor a [single] meal.
Take care,brethren,that there not be in any oneof you an evil,unbelievingheartthat falls awayfrom the livingGod.
Therefore,since we havea greathigh priestwhohas passed throughthe heavens,Jesusthe Sonof God,let us hold fastour confession.
For indeedwe have had good news preachedto us, justas they also;but the wordthey hearddid not profitthem, because it was not unitedby faithin thosewhoheard.
Therefore,sinceit remainsfor someto enterit, and thosewhoformerlyhad good news preachedto them failedto enterbecauseof disobedience,
NowI desireto remindyou, though you knowall thingsonce for all,that the Lord,after savinga peopleout of the landof Egypt,subsequentlydestroyedthosewho did not believe.
