So they made their fatherdrinkwinethat night,and the firstbornwentin and laywith her father;and he did not knowwhen she laydownor when she arose.
"His eyesare dullfrom wine,And his teethwhitefrom milk.
Now Davidcalledhim, and he ateand drankbeforehim, and he madehim drunk;and in the eveninghe wentout to lieon his bedwith his lord'sservants,but he did not godownto his house.
Absalomcommandedhis servants,saying,"Seenow,when Amnon'sheartis merrywith wine,and when I sayto you, 'StrikeAmnon,'then puthim to death.Do not fear;have not I myselfcommandedyou? Be courageousand be valiant."
Wineis a mocker,strongdrinka brawler,And whoeveris intoxicatedby it is not wise.
Do not be with heavydrinkersof wine,[Or] with gluttonouseatersof meat;
For the heavydrinkerand the gluttonwill cometo poverty,And drowsinesswill clothe[one] with rags.
Woeto those who riseearlyin the morningthat they may pursuestrongdrink,Who stayup latein the eveningthat winemay inflamethem!
Woeto those who are heroesin drinkingwineAnd valiantmenin mixingstrongdrink,
Liketangledthorns,And like those who are drunkenwith their drink,They are consumedAs stubblecompletelywithered.
And do not get drunkwith wine,for that is dissipation,but be filledwith the Spirit,
