Haughtyeyesand a proudheart,The lampof the wicked,is sin.
"Indeed,the lightof the wickedgoesout, And the flameof his firegivesnolight.
"The lightin his tentis darkened,And his lampgoesout abovehim.
The wicked,in the haughtinessof his countenance,does not seek[Him]. Allhis thoughtsare, "Thereis noGod."
Whoever secretlyslandershis neighbor,him I will destroy;Noone who has a haughtylookand an arrogantheartwill I endure.
O LORD,my heartis not proud,normy eyeshaughty;Nordo I involvemyself in greatmatters, Or in thingstoodifficultfor me.
The sacrificeof the wickedis an abominationto the LORD,But the prayerof the uprightis His delight.
The sacrificeof the wickedis an abomination,Howmuchmorewhenhe bringsit with evilintent!
For there will be nofuturefor the evilman;The lampof the wickedwill be putout.
There is a kind--oh howloftyare his eyes!And his eyelidsare raised[in arrogance].
Thereare sixthingswhich the LORDhates,Yes, sevenwhich are an abominationto Him:
Haughtyeyes,a lyingtongue,And handsthat shedinnocentblood,
"The fearof the LORDis to hateevil;Prideand arroganceand the evilwayAnd the pervertedmouth,I hate.
So it will be that whenthe Lordhas completedallHis workon MountZionand on Jerusalem,[He will say], "I will punishthe fruitof the arrogantheartof the kingof Assyriaand the pompof his haughtiness."
The proudlookof manwill be abasedAnd the loftinessof manwill be humbled,And the LORDalonewill be exaltedin that day.
The prideof manwill be humbledAnd the loftinessof menwill be abased;And the LORDalonewill be exaltedin that day,
Moreover, the LORDsaid,"Becausethe daughtersof Zionare proudAnd walkwith headsheldhighand seductiveeyes,And goalong with mincingstepsAnd tinklethe bangleson their feet,
"The eyeis the lampof your body;whenyour eyeis clear,your wholebodyalsois full of light;but whenit is bad,your bodyalsois full of darkness.
"I tellyou, this manwentto his housejustifiedrather thanthe other;for everyonewho exaltshimselfwill be humbled,but he who humbleshimselfwill be exalted."
But he who doubtsis condemnedifhe eats,because[his eating is] not from faith;and whateveris not from faithis sin.
You younger men,likewise,be subjectto [your] elders;and allof you, clotheyourselves with humilitytoward one another,for GODIS OPPOSEDTO THE PROUD,BUT GIVESGRACETO THE HUMBLE.
