He does not putout his moneyat interest,Nordoes he takea bribeagainstthe innocent.He who doesthesethingswill neverbe shaken.
"Furthermore, you shall selectout of allthe peopleablemenwho fearGod,menof truth,those who hatedishonestgain;and you shall place[these] overthem [as] leadersof thousands,of hundreds,of fiftiesand of tens.
"You shall not takea bribe,for a bribeblindsthe clear-sightedand subvertsthe causeof the just.
Soare the waysof everyonewho gainsby violence;It takesaway the lifeof its possessors.
He whois steadfastin righteousness[will attain] to life,And he who pursuesevil[will bring about] his own death.
He who troubleshis own housewill inheritwind,And the foolishwill be servantto the wisehearted.
Evilplansare an abominationto the LORD,But pleasantwordsare pure.
An inheritancegainedhurriedlyat the beginningWill not be blessedin the end.
Do not wearyyourself to gainwealth,Ceasefrom your consideration[of it].
A leaderwho is a greatoppressorlacksunderstanding,[But] he who hatesunjustgainwill prolong[his] days.
An arrogantman stirsup strife,But he who trustsin the LORDwill prosper.
The kinggivesstabilityto the landby justice,But a manwhotakesbribesoverthrowsit.
"As a partridgethat hatcheseggswhich it has not laid,[So] is he who makesa fortune,but unjustly;In the midstof his daysit will forsakehim, And in the endhe will be a fool."
"You shall not distortjustice;you shall not be partial,and you shall not takea bribe,for a bribeblindsthe eyesof the wiseand pervertsthe wordsof the righteous.
"You shall not bringan abominationinto your house,and likeit comeunderthe ban;you shall utterlydetestit and you shall utterlyabhorit, for it is somethingbanned.
For the love of moneyis a rootof allsorts of evil,and someby longingfor it have wandered awayfrom the faithand piercedthemselveswith manygriefs.
But thosewho wantto get richfallinto temptationand a snareand manyfoolishand harmfuldesireswhichplungemeninto ruinand destruction.
"But as for you, onlykeepyourselves from the thingsunderthe ban,sothat you do not covet[them] and takesomeof the thingsunderthe ban,and makethe campof Israelaccursedand bringtroubleon it.
"HereI am; bearwitnessagainst me beforethe LORDand His anointed.Whoseoxhave I taken,or whosedonkeyhave I taken,or whomhave I defrauded?Whomhave I oppressed,or from whosehandhave I takena bribeto blindmy eyeswith it? I will restore[it] to you."
