The visionof Obadiah.Thussaysthe LordGODconcerning Edom--We have hearda reportfrom the LORD,And an envoyhas been sentamong the nations[saying], "Ariseand let us goagainsther for battle"--
and Esausaidto Jacob,"Pleaselet me havea swallowof that redstuffthere, for I am famished."Thereforehis namewas calledEdom.
So Esaulivedin the hillcountryof Seir;Esauis Edom.
Thesethen are [the records of] the generationsof Esauthe fatherof the Edomitesin the hillcountryof Seir.
Remember,O LORD,against the sonsof EdomThe dayof Jerusalem,Who said,"Razeit, razeit To its very foundation."
The oracleconcerning Edom.One keeps callingto me from Seir,"Watchman,howfar goneis the night?Watchman,howfar goneis the night?"
The watchmansays,"Morningcomesbut alsonight.Ifyou would inquire,inquire;Comebackagain."
"For their princesare at ZoanAnd their ambassadorsarriveat Hanes.
Then I tookthe cupfrom the LORD'Shandand made allthe nationsto whomthe LORDsentme drinkit:
Edom,Moaband the sonsof Ammon;
"Now sothat your heartdoes not growfaint,And you are not afraidat the reportthat [will be] heardin the land--For the reportwill comeone year,And afterthat another reportin another year,And violence[will be] in the landWith ruleragainstruler--
Moreover, the wordof the LORDcameto me saying,
Egyptwill becomea waste,And Edomwill becomea desolatewilderness,Becauseof the violencedone to the sonsof Judah,In whoselandthey have shedinnocentblood.
"The breakergoesup beforethem; They breakout, passthroughthe gateand goout by it. So their kinggoeson beforethem, And the LORDat their head."
"You willbe hearingof warsand rumorsof wars.Seethat you are not frightened,for [those things] musttake place,but [that] is not yetthe end.
