Then they calledon the LORDand said,"We earnestlypray,OLORD,do not let us perishon account of thisman'slifeand do not putinnocentbloodon us; for You, O LORD,have doneas You have pleased."
"Whoever shedsman'sblood,By manhis bloodshall be shed,For in the imageof GodHe mademan.
Then they criedto the LORDin their trouble,And He broughtthem out of their distresses.
But our Godis in the heavens;He doeswhateverHe pleases.
Whateverthe LORDpleases,He does,In heavenand in earth,in the seasand in alldeeps.
O LORD,they soughtYou in distress;They could only whispera prayer,Your chasteningwas upon them.
However, the menrowed[desperately] to returnto landbut they couldnot, for the seawas becoming[even] stormieragainstthem.
Then the menfearedthe LORDgreatly,and they offereda sacrificeto the LORDand madevows.
Then the sailorsbecameafraidand everymancriedto his god,and they threwthe cargowhichwas in the shipinto the seato lighten[it] for them. But Jonahhad gonebelowinto the holdof the ship,laindownand fallensoundasleep.
"But both manand beastmust be coveredwith sackcloth;and let men callon Godearnestlythat eachmay turnfrom his wickedwayand from the violencewhichis in his hands.
"Yes,Father,for this waywas well-pleasingin Your sight.
Whenthe nativessawthe creaturehangingfrom his hand,they [began] sayingto one another,"Undoubtedlythismanis a murderer,and though he has been savedfrom the sea,justicehas not allowedhim to live."
alsowe have obtained an inheritance,having been predestinedaccordingto His purposewho worksall thingsafterthe counselof His will,
He made knownto us the mysteryof His will, accordingto His kind intentionwhichHe purposedin Him
ForgiveYour peopleIsraelwhomYou have redeemed,O LORD,and do not placethe guiltof innocentbloodin the midstof Your peopleIsrael.'And the bloodguiltinessshall be forgiventhem.
