They were sayingthis,testingHim, sothat they might havegrounds for accusingHim. But Jesusstoopeddownand with His fingerwroteon the ground.
"Judahis a lion'swhelp;From the prey,my son,you have goneup. He couches,he liesdownas a lion,And as a lion,whodares rousehim up?
I said,"I will guardmy waysThat I may not sinwith my tongue;I will guardmy mouthas with a muzzleWhilethe wickedare in my presence."
[Like] one who takesa dogby the earsIs he who passesby [and] meddleswith strifenot belonging to him.
A timeto tearapartand a timeto sewtogether;A timeto be silentand a timeto speak.
O LORD,the hopeof Israel,Allwho forsakeYou will be putto shame.Those who turnawayon earthwill be writtendown,Becausethey have forsakenthe fountainof livingwater,even the LORD.
Suddenlythe fingersof a man'shandemergedand began writingoppositethe lampstandon the plasterof the wallof the king'spalace,and the kingsawthe backof the handthat did the writing.
They hatehim who reprovesin the gate,And they abhorhim who speaks[with] integrity.
Thereforeat sucha timethe prudentperson keepssilent,for it is an eviltime.
"Surelyallthe menwho have seenMy gloryand My signswhichI performedin Egyptand in the wilderness,yet have putMe to the testthesetentimesand have not listenedto My voice,
"Behold,I sendyou out as sheepin the midstof wolves;sobe shrewdas serpentsand innocentas doves.
But He did not answerher a word.And His disciplescameand imploredHim, saying,"Send her away,becauseshe keeps shoutingat us."
The Phariseesand Sadduceescameup, and testingJesus, they askedHim to showthem a signfrom heaven.
[Some] Phariseescameto Jesus, testingHim and asking,"Is it lawful[for a man] to divorcehis wifefor anyreasonat all?"
But Jesusperceivedtheir malice,and said,"Whyare you testingMe, you hypocrites?
Oneof them, a lawyer,askedHim [a question], testingHim,
But Jesuskept silent.And the high priestsaidto Him, "I adjureYou by the livingGod,that You tellus whetherYou are the Christ,the Sonof God."
[Some] Phariseescameup to Jesus, testingHim, and [began] to questionHim whetherit was lawfulfor a manto divorcea wife.
"Shall we payorshall we not pay?"But He, knowingtheir hypocrisy,saidto them, "Whyare you testingMe? BringMe a denariusto lookat."
They were watchingHim [to see] ifHe would healhim on the Sabbath,sothat they might accuseHim.
The Phariseescameout and beganto arguewith Him, seekingfrom Him a signfrom heaven,to testHim.
And a lawyerstoodup and put Him to the test,saying,"Teacher,whatshall I doto inheriteternallife?"
Others,to test[Him], were demandingof Him a signfrom heaven.
Early in the morningHe cameagaininto the temple,and allthe peoplewere comingto Him; and He sat downand [began] to teachthem.
Norlet us trythe Lord,as someof them did,and were destroyedby the serpents.
