"The prophetsare [as] wind,And the wordis not in them. Thusit will be doneto them!"
but they [continually] mockedthe messengersof God,despisedHis wordsand scoffedat His prophets,untilthe wrathof the LORDaroseagainst His people,untiltherewas noremedy.
"Do you intendto reprove[my] words,When the wordsof one in despairbelong to the wind?
"Howlongwill you saythesethings,And the wordsof your mouthbe a mightywind?
[Like] cloudsand windwithoutrainIs a manwho boastsof his giftsfalsely.
"Behold,allof them are false;Their worksare worthless,Their moltenimagesare windand emptiness.
But, "Ah,LordGOD!"I said,"Look,the prophetsare tellingthem, 'You will not seethe swordnorwill you havefamine,but I will giveyou lastingpeacein thisplace.'"
"Thereforethussaysthe LORDconcerningthe prophetswho are prophesyingin My name,although it was not I who sentthem-- yet they keep saying,'There will be noswordor faminein thisland--by swordand faminethoseprophetsshall meettheir end!
Then they said,"Comeand let us deviseplansagainstJeremiah.Surelythe lawis not going to be lostto the priest,norcounselto the sage,northe [divine] wordto the prophet!Comeon and let us strikeat him with [our] tongue,and let us givenoheedto anyof his words."
"The windwill sweepawayallyour shepherds,And your loverswill gointo captivity;Thenyou will surelybe ashamedand humiliatedBecauseof allyour wickedness.
WithintwoyearsI am going to bringbackto thisplaceallthe vesselsof the LORD'Shouse,whichNebuchadnezzarkingof Babylontookawayfrom thisplaceand carriedto Babylon.
Azariahthe sonof Hoshaiah,and Johananthe sonof Kareah,and allthe arrogantmensaidto Jeremiah,"You are tellinga lie!The LORDour Godhas not sentyou to say,'You are not to enterEgyptto residethere';
The daysof punishmenthave come,The daysof retributionhave come;Let Israelknow[this]! The prophetis a fool,The inspiredmanis demented,Becauseof the grossnessof your iniquity,And [because] your hostilityis [so] great.
