I lookedon the earth, and behold,[it was] formlessand void; And to the heavens, and they hadnolight.
The earthwas formlessand void, and darknesswas overthe surfaceof the deep, and the Spiritof Godwas movingoverthe surfaceof the waters.
For the starsof heavenand their constellationsWill not flashforththeir light; The sunwill be darkwhen it risesAnd the moonwill not shedits light.
And it will growloverit in that daylike the roaringof the sea.If one looksto the land, behold, there is darkness[and] distress;Even the lightis darkenedby its clouds.
"Be appalled,O heavens,at this,And shudder,be verydesolate,"declaresthe LORD.
"For the mountainsI will takeup a weepingand wailing,And for the pasturesof the wildernessa dirge,Becausethey are laidwastesothat noonepassesthrough,And the lowingof the cattleis not heard;Boththe birdsof the skyand the beastshave fled;they are gone.
He has drivenme and made me walkIn darknessand not in light.
Beforethem the earthquakes,The heavenstremble,The sunand the moongrowdarkAnd the starslosetheir brightness.
"It will comeabout in that day,"declaresthe LordGOD,"That I will make the sungodown at noonAnd makethe earthdarkin broaddaylight.
In that daythere will be nolight;the luminarieswill dwindle.
"But immediatelyafterthe tribulationof thosedaysTHE SUNWILL BE DARKENED,AND THE MOONWILL NOT GIVEITS LIGHT,AND THE STARSWILL FALLfrom the sky,and the powersof the heavenswill be shaken.
