So the [common] manwill be humbledand the manof [importance] abased,The eyesof the proudalso will be abased.
"And You savean afflictedpeople; But Your eyesare on the haughty[whom] You abase.
O LORD,my heartis not proud, normy eyeshaughty;Nordo I involvemyself in greatmatters, Or in thingstoodifficultfor me.
Menof lowdegreeare onlyvanityand menof rankare a lie;In the balancesthey goup; They are togetherlighter thanbreath.
"Stillyou exaltyourself against My peopleby not lettingthem go.
There is a kind--oh howloftyare his eyes! And his eyelidsare raised[in arrogance].
So it will be that whenthe Lordhas completedallHis workon MountZionand on Jerusalem,[He will say], "I will punishthe fruitof the arrogantheartof the kingof Assyriaand the pompof his haughtiness."
Behold, the Lord, the GODof hosts, will lopoffthe boughswith a terriblecrash; Those also who are tallin staturewill be cutdownAnd those whoare loftywill be abased.
Thus I will punishthe worldfor its evilAnd the wickedfor their iniquity;I will also putan endto the arroganceof the proudAnd abasethe haughtinessof the ruthless.
The proudlookof manwill be abasedAnd the loftinessof manwill be humbled,And the LORDalonewill be exaltedin that day.
For the LORDof hostswill have a day[of reckoning] Againsteveryonewhois proudand loftyAnd againsteveryonewho is liftedup, That he may be abased.
The prideof manwill be humbledAnd the loftinessof menwill be abased; And the LORDalonewill be exaltedin that day,
So the [common] manhas beenhumbledAnd the man[of importance] has beenabased,But do not forgivethem.
"Whomhave you reproachedand blasphemed? And againstwhomhave you raised[your] voiceAnd haughtilyliftedup your eyes?Againstthe HolyOneof Israel!
"Becauseof your ragingagainstMe And because your arrogancehas comeup to My ears,Therefore I will putMy hookin your noseAnd My bridlein your lips,And I will turnyou backby the waywhichyou came.
"Shall I not punishthese[people]," declaresthe LORD,"And on a nationsuchas thisShall I not avengeMyself?
"NowI, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exaltand honorthe Kingof heaven, for allHis worksare true and His waysjust, and He is ableto humblethose whowalkin pride."
"In that dayyou will feelnoshameBecauseof allyour deedsBy whichyou have rebelledagainst Me; For thenI will removefrom your midstYour proud, exultingones,And you will neveragainbe haughtyOn My holymountain.
You younger men, likewise,be subjectto [your] elders;and allof you, clotheyourselves with humilitytoward one another, for GODIS OPPOSEDTO THE PROUD,BUT GIVESGRACETO THE HUMBLE.
