"I have arousedone from the north,and he has come;From the risingof the sunhe will callon My name;And he will comeupon rulersas [upon] mortar,Even as the pottertreadsclay."
"Then I pulverizedthem as the dustof the earth;I crushed[and] stampedthem as the mireof the streets.
I sendit against a godlessnationAnd commissionit againstthe peopleof My furyTo capturebootyand to seizeplunder,And to tramplethem downlike mudin the streets.
A harshvisionhas been shownto me; The treacherousone [still] dealstreacherously,and the destroyer[still] destroys.Goup, Elam,laysiege,Media;I have madean endof allthe groaningshe has caused.
"Whohas arousedone from the eastWhom He callsin righteousnessto His feet?He deliversup nationsbeforehim And subdueskings.He makesthem like dustwith his sword,As the wind-driven chaffwith his bow.
"[It is I] who saysof Cyrus,'[He is] My shepherd!And he will performallMy desire.'And he declaresof Jerusalem,She will be built,'And of the temple,Your foundationwill be laid.'"
Thussaysthe LORDto CyrusHis anointed,WhomI have takenby the righthand,To subduenationsbeforehim And to loosethe loinsof kings;To opendoorsbeforehim so that gateswill not be shut:
"I have arousedhim in righteousnessAnd I will makeallhis wayssmooth;He will buildMy cityand will letMy exilesgofree,Withoutany paymentor reward,"saysthe LORDof hosts.
Then the LORDsaidto me, "Out of the norththe evilwill breakforthon allthe inhabitantsof the land.
"For a nationhas comeup againsther out of the north;it will makeher landan objectof horror,and there will be noinhabitantin it. Bothmanand beasthave wanderedoff, they have goneaway!
Then my enemywill see,And shamewill coverher who saidto me, "Whereis the LORDyour God?"My eyeswill lookon her; At that timeshe will be trampleddownLike mireof the streets.
"They will be as mightymen,Treadingdown[the enemy] in the mireof the streetsin battle;And they will fight,for the LORD[will be] with them; And the riderson horseswill be putto shame.
The sixth[angel] pouredout his bowlon the greatriver,the Euphrates;and its waterwas driedup, sothat the waywould be preparedfor the kingsfrom the east.
