In the ninthyearof Hoshea,the kingof AssyriacapturedSamariaand carriedIsraelawayinto exileto Assyria,and settledthem in Halahand Habor,[on] the riverof Gozan,and in the citiesof the Medes.
Now in the fourteenthyearof KingHezekiah,Sennacheribkingof Assyriacameup againstallthe fortifiedcitiesof Judahand seizedthem.
thereforethussaysthe LORD,the Godof Israel,'Behold,I am bringing[such] calamityon Jerusalemand Judah,that whoeverhearsof it, bothhis earswill tingle.
The LORDsentagainst him bandsof Chaldeans,bandsof Arameans,bandsof Moabites,and bandsof Ammonites.So He sentthem against Judahto destroyit, according to the wordof the LORDwhichHe had spokenthroughHis servantsthe prophets.
"Allaroundterrorsfrightenhim, And harryhim at every step.
"For the morningis the sameto him as thickdarkness,For he is familiarwith the terrorsof thickdarkness.
"Behold,your expectationis false;Will you be laidlowevenat the sightof him?
"For the arrowsof the Almightyare withinme, Their poisonmy spiritdrinks;The terrorsof Godare arrayedagainst me.
My heartis in anguishwithinme, And the terrorsof deathhave fallenupon me.
I was afflictedand about to diefrom my youthon; I sufferYour terrors;I am overcome.
Behold,their bravemencryin the streets,The ambassadorsof peaceweepbitterly.
Then Eliakimthe sonof Hilkiah,whowas overthe household,and Shebnathe scribeand Joahthe sonof Asaph,the recorder,cameto Hezekiahwith their clothestornand toldhim the wordsof Rabshakeh.
They saidto him, "ThussaysHezekiah,'Thisdayis a dayof distress,rebukeand rejection;for childrenhave cometo birth,and thereis nostrengthto deliver.
The LordGODhas givenMe the tongueof disciples,That I may knowhow to sustainthe wearyonewith a word.He awakens[Me] morningby morning,He awakensMy earto listenas a disciple.
and say,'Hearthe wordof the LORD,O kingsof Judahand inhabitantsof Jerusalem:thussaysthe LORDof hosts,the Godof Israel,"BeholdI am about to bringa calamityupon thisplace,at whichthe earsof everyonethat hearsof it will tingle.
Declarein Judahand proclaimin Jerusalem,and say,"Blowthe trumpetin the land;Cryaloudand say,Assembleyourselves, and let us goInto the fortifiedcities.'
"It shall comeabout in that day,"declaresthe LORD,"that the heartof the kingand the heartof the princeswill fail;and the priestswill be appalledand the prophetswill be astounded."
We have heardthe reportof it; Our handsare limp.Anguishhas seizedus, Painas of a woman in childbirth.
You calledas in the dayof an appointedfeastMy terrorson everyside;And there was noone whoescapedor survivedIn the dayof the LORD'Sanger.Those whomI boreand reared,My enemyannihilatedthem.
"At thispointthe revelationended.As for me, Daniel,my thoughtswere greatlyalarmingme and my facegrewpale,but I keptthe matterto myself."
Then I, Daniel,was exhaustedand sickfor days.Then I gotup [again] and carriedon the king'sbusiness;but I was astoundedat the vision,and therewas noneto explain[it].
I heardand my inwardpartstrembled,At the soundmy lipsquivered.Decayentersmy bones,And in my placeI tremble.BecauseI must waitquietlyfor the dayof distress,For the peopleto arise[who] will invadeus.
The LORDsaidto Samuel,"Behold,I am about to doa thingin Israelat whichbothearsof everyonewho hearsit will tingle.
