Now Meshakingof Moabwas a sheepbreeder,and used to paythe kingof Israel100000lambsand the woolof 100,000rams.
Like a sparrowin [its] flitting,like a swallowin [its] flying,Soa cursewithoutcausedoes not alight.
Like a birdthat wandersfrom her nest,Sois a manwho wandersfrom his home.
And it will be that like a huntedgazelle,Or like sheepwith noneto gather[them], They will eachturnto his own people,And eachonefleeto his own land.
"Moabhas beenputto shame,for it has beenshattered.Wailand cryout; Declareby the ArnonThat Moabhas been destroyed.
"Woeto you, Moab!The peopleof Chemoshhave perished;For your sonshave been takenaway captiveAnd your daughtersinto captivity.
"Givewingsto Moab,For she will fleeaway;And her citieswill becomea desolation,Withoutinhabitantsin them.
"Woeto you, O Moab!You are ruined,O peopleof Chemosh!He has givenhis sonsas fugitives,And his daughtersinto captivity,To an Amoriteking,Sihon.
"From Aroerwhichis on the edgeof the valleyof Arnonand [from] the citywhichis in the valley,even to Gilead,there was nocitythat was toohighfor us; the LORDour Goddeliveredalloverto us.
"So we tookpossessionof thislandat that time.From Aroer,whichis by the valleyof Arnon,and halfthe hillcountryof Gileadand its citiesI gaveto the Reubenitesand to the Gadites.
"Thus we tookthe landat that timefrom the handof the twokingsof the Amoriteswhowere beyondthe Jordan,from the valleyof Arnonto MountHermon
Their territorywas from Aroer,whichis on the edgeof the valleyof the Arnon,with the citywhichis in the middleof the valleyand allthe plainby Medeba;
Then they wentthrough the wildernessand aroundthe landof Edomand the landof Moab,and cameto the eastsideof the landof Moab,and they campedbeyondthe Arnon;but they did not enterthe territoryof Moab,for the Arnon[was] the borderof Moab.
