but into the second,onlythe high priest[enters] oncea year,not without[taking] blood,whichhe offersfor himselfand for the sinsof the peoplecommitted in ignorance.
And the angerof the LORDburnedagainst Uzzah,and Godstruckhim downtherefor his irreverence;and he diedthereby the arkof God.
Thus ManassehmisledJudahand the inhabitantsof Jerusalemto domoreevilthanthe nationswhomthe LORDdestroyedbeforethe sonsof Israel.
Whocan discern[his] errors?Acquitme of hidden[faults].
"For fortyyearsI loathed[that] generation,And saidthey are a peoplewho errin their heart,And they do not knowMy ways.
"Aaronshall makeatonementon its hornsoncea year;he shall makeatonementon it with the bloodof the sinofferingof atonementoncea yearthroughout your generations.It is mostholyto the LORD."
And thesealsoreelwith wineand staggerfrom strongdrink:The priestand the prophetreelwith strongdrink,They are confusedby wine,they staggerfrom strongdrink;They reelwhile having visions,They totter[when rendering] judgment.
Thereforebehold,I will once againdealmarvelouslywith thispeople,wondrouslymarvelous;And the wisdomof their wisemenwill perish,And the discernmentof their discerningmen will be concealed."
O My people!Their oppressorsare children,And womenruleover them. O My people!Those who guideyou lead[you] astrayAnd confusethe directionof your paths.
For those who guidethispeopleare leading[them] astray;And those who are guidedby them are broughtto confusion.
My peopleconsulttheir woodenidol, and their [diviner's] wandinformsthem; For a spiritof harlotryhas led[them] astray,And they have playedthe harlot,[departing] from their God.
"Now you shall havethisas a permanentstatute,to makeatonementfor the sonsof Israelfor alltheir sinsonceevery year."And justas the LORDhad commandedMoses,[so] he did.
"He is then to bringto the priesta ramwithoutdefectfrom the flock,according to your valuation,for a guiltoffering.So the priestshall makeatonementfor him concerninghis errorin whichhe sinnedunintentionallyand did not know[it], and it will be forgivenhim.
"Flightwill perishfrom the swift,And the stalwartwill not strengthenhis power,Northe mightymansavehis life.
Then the priestshall makeatonementfor allthe congregationof the sonsof Israel,and they will be forgiven;for it was an error,and they have broughttheir offering,an offeringby fireto the LORD,and their sinofferingbeforethe LORD,for their error.
beingdarkenedin their understanding,excludedfrom the lifeof Godbecauseof the ignorancethat is in them, becauseof the hardnessof their heart;
But in those[sacrifices] there is a reminderof sinsyear by year.
Thishope we haveas an anchorof the soul,a [hope] bothsureand steadfastand one which enterswithinthe veil,
whodoes not needdaily,likethosehigh priests,to offerup sacrifices,firstfor His ownsinsand thenfor the [sins] of the people,becausethisHe didonce for allwhen He offeredup Himself.
Behindthe secondveilthere was a tabernaclewhich is calledthe Holy of Holies,
