Then their fatherIsraelsaidto them, "If[it must be] so,thendothis:takesomeof the bestproductsof the landin your bags,and carrydownto the manas a present,a littlebalmand a littlehoney,aromaticgumand myrrh,pistachionutsand almonds.
His servantssaidto him, "Beholdnow,we have heardthat the kingsof the houseof Israelare mercifulkings,pleaselet us putsackclothon our loinsand ropeson our heads,and goout to the kingof Israel;perhapshe will saveyour life."
A hot-temperedmanstirsup strife,But the slowto angercalmsa dispute.
The furyof a kingis [like] messengersof death,But a wisemanwill appeaseit.
A man'sgiftmakesroomfor him And bringshim beforegreatmen.
A giftin secretsubduesanger,And a bribein the bosom,strongwrath.
He will not acceptanyransom,Norwill he be satisfiedthoughyou givemanygifts.
"Whoknows,Godmay turnand relentand withdrawHis burningangerso that we will not perish."
with gentlenesscorrectingthosewho are in opposition,if perhapsGodmay grantthem repentanceleadingto the knowledgeof the truth,
"So you shall makelikenessesof your tumorsand likenessesof your micethat ravagethe land,and you shall givegloryto the Godof Israel;perhapsHe will easeHis handfrom you, your gods,and your land.
