In the morningthey aroseearlyand exchangedoaths;then Isaacsentthem awayand they departedfrom him in peace.
Abramsaidto the kingof Sodom,"I have swornto the LORDGodMostHigh,possessorof heavenand earth,
And he said,"Nowbehold,my lords,pleaseturnasideinto your servant'shouse,and spendthe night,and washyour feet;then you may riseearlyand goon your way."They saidhowever, "No,but we shall spendthe nightin the square."
So Abrahamroseearlyin the morningand tookbreadand a skinof waterand gave[them] to Hagar,putting[them] on her shoulder,and [gave her] the boy,and senther away.And she departedand wanderedabout in the wildernessof Beersheba.
nowtherefore, swearto me hereby Godthat you will not dealfalselywith me or with my offspringor with my posterity,but according to the kindnessthat I have shownto you, you shall showto me and to the landin whichyou have sojourned."
Abrahamtooksheepand oxenand gavethem to Abimelech,and the twoof them madea covenant.
So Abrahamroseearlyin the morningand saddledhis donkey,and tooktwoof his youngmenwith him and Isaachis son;and he splitwoodfor the burntoffering,and aroseand wentto the placeof whichGodhad toldhim.
And Jacobsaid,"Firstswearto me"; so he sworeto him, and soldhis birthrightto Jacob.
Now it cameabout on the sameday,that Isaac'sservantscamein and toldhim aboutthe wellwhichthey had dug,and saidto him, "We have foundwater."
"So nowcome,let us makea covenant,you and I, and let it be a witnessbetweenyou and me."
Earlyin the morningLabanarose,and kissedhis sonsand his daughtersand blessedthem. Then Labandepartedand returnedto his place.
For menswearby one greater[than themselves], and with them an oath[given] as confirmationis an endof everydispute.
Now the menof Israelwere hard-pressedon that day,for Saulhad putthe peopleunderoath,saying,"Cursedbe the manwhoeatsfoodbeforeevening,and untilI have avengedmyself on my enemies."So noneof the peopletastedfood.
Yet Davidvowedagain,saying,"Your fatherknowswellthat I have foundfavorin your sight,and he has said,'Do not let Jonathanknowthis,orhe will be grieved.'But trulyas the LORDlivesand as your soullives,there is hardly a stepbetweenme and death."
Then Davidsaidto him, "Will you bringme downto thisband?"And he said,"Swearto me by Godthat you will not killme or deliverme into the handsof my master,and I will bringyou downto thisband."
