The LORDappearedto Abramand said,"To your descendantsI will givethisland."So he builtan altarthereto the LORDwho had appearedto him.
Then he proceededfrom thereto the mountainon the eastof Bethel,and pitchedhis tent,with Bethelon the westand Aion the east;and therehe builtan altarto the LORDand calledupon the nameof the LORD.
for allthe landwhichyou see,I will giveit to you and to your descendantsforever.
"Arise,walkabout the landthrough its lengthand breadth;for I will giveit to you."
Then Abrammovedhis tentand cameand dweltby the oaksof Mamre,whichare in Hebron,and therehe builtan altarto the LORD.
to the placeof the altarwhichhe had madethereformerly;and thereAbramcalledon the nameof the LORD.
On that daythe LORDmadea covenantwith Abram,saying,"To your descendantsI have giventhisland,From the riverof Egyptas faras the greatriver,the riverEuphrates:
Now when Abramwas ninety-nineyearsold,the LORDappearedto Abramand saidto him, "I am GodAlmighty;WalkbeforeMe, and be blameless.
Abramfellon his face,and Godtalkedwith him, saying,
"I will giveto you and to your descendantsafteryou, the landof your sojournings,allthe landof Canaan,for an everlastingpossession;and I will be their God."
Now the LORDappearedto him by the oaksof Mamre,while he was sittingat the tentdoorin the heatof the day.
Then they cameto the placeof whichGodhad toldhim; and Abrahambuiltthe altarthereand arrangedthe wood,and boundhis sonIsaacand laidhim on the altar,on topof the wood.
"The LORD,the Godof heaven,whotookme from my father'shouseand from the landof my birth,and whospoketo me and whosworeto me, saying,To your descendantsI will givethisland,'He will sendHis angelbeforeyou, and you will takea wifefor my sonfrom there.
So he builtan altarthereand calledupon the nameof the LORD,and pitchedhis tentthere;and thereIsaac'sservantsduga well.
"Sojournin thislandand I will be with you and blessyou, for to you and to your descendantsI will givealltheselands,and I will establishthe oathwhichI sworeto your fatherAbraham.
And behold,the LORDstoodaboveit and said,"I am the LORD,the Godof your fatherAbrahamand the Godof Isaac;the landon whichyou lie,I will giveit to you and to your descendants.
"May He also giveyou the blessingof Abraham,to you and to your descendantswith you, that you may possessthe landof your sojournings,whichGodgaveto Abraham."
So Jacobnamedthe placePeniel,for [he said], "I have seenGodfaceto face,yet my lifehas been preserved."
Then he erectedtherean altarand calledit El-Elohe-Israel.
"The landwhichI gaveto Abrahamand Isaac,I will giveit to you, And I will givethe landto your descendantsafter you."
He builtan altarthere,and calledthe placeEl-bethel,becausethereGodhad revealedHimself to him when he fledfrom his brother.
Josephsaidto his brothers,"I am about to die,but Godwill surelytakecareof you and bringyou up from thislandto the landwhichHe promisedon oathto Abraham,to Isaacand to Jacob."
Then Noahbuiltan altarto the LORD,and tookof everycleananimaland of everycleanbirdand offeredburntofferingson the altar.
Davidbuilttherean altarto the LORDand offeredburntofferingsand peaceofferings.Thus the LORDwas movedby prayerfor the land,and the plaguewas heldbackfrom Israel.
So with the stoneshe builtan altarin the nameof the LORD,and he madea trencharoundthe altar,largeenough to holdtwo measuresof seed.
[The covenant] whichHe madewith Abraham,And His oathto Isaac.
Saying,"To you I will givethe landof Canaan,As the portionof your inheritance."
see[how] they are rewardingus by comingto driveus out from Your possessionwhichYou have givenus as an inheritance.
"Did You not, O our God,driveout the inhabitantsof thislandbeforeYour peopleIsraeland giveit to the descendantsof AbrahamYour friendforever?
Then Jeshuathe sonof Jozadakand his brothersthe priests,and Zerubbabelthe sonof Shealtieland his brothersaroseand builtthe altarof the Godof Israelto offerburntofferingson it, as it is writtenin the lawof Moses,the manof God.
Mosesbuiltan altarand namedit The LORDis My Banner;
Moseswrotedownallthe wordsof the LORD.Then he aroseearlyin the morning,and builtan altarat the footof the mountainwith twelvepillarsfor the twelvetribesof Israel.
"RememberAbraham,Isaac,and Israel,Your servantsto whomYou sworeby Yourself, and saidto them, 'I will multiplyyour descendantsas the starsof the heavens,and allthislandof whichI have spokenI will giveto your descendants,and they shall inherit[it] forever.'"
Then the LORDspoketo Moses,"Depart,goup from here,you and the peoplewhomyou have broughtup from the landof Egypt,to the landof whichI sworeto Abraham,Isaac,and Jacob,saying,To your descendantsI will giveit.'
and I appearedto Abraham,Isaac,and Jacob,as GodAlmighty,but [by] My name,LORD,I did not makeMyself knownto them.
"I alsoestablishedMy covenantwith them, to givethem the landof Canaan,the landin whichthey sojourned.
"In thosedaysthe houseof Judahwill walkwith the houseof Israel,and they will cometogetherfrom the landof the northto the landthat I gaveyour fathersas an inheritance.
"Among thesethe landshall be dividedfor an inheritanceaccording to the numberof names.
Noneof the menwho cameup from Egypt,from twentyyearsoldand upward,shall seethe landwhichI sworeto Abraham,to Isaacand to Jacob;for they did not followMe fully,
"But He gavehim noinheritancein it, not evena footof ground,and [yet], even when he had nochild,He promisedthat HE WOULD GIVEIT TO HIM AS A POSSESSION,AND TO HIS DESCENDANTSAFTERHIM.
That is, it is not the childrenof the fleshwhoare childrenof God,but the childrenof the promiseare regardedas descendants.
Nowthe promiseswere spokento Abrahamand to his seed.He does not say,"And to seeds,"as [referring] to many,but [rather] to one,"And to your seed,"that is, Christ.
And you brethren,likeIsaac,are childrenof promise.
See,I have placedthe landbeforeyou; goin and possessthe landwhichthe LORDsworeto giveto your fathers,to Abraham,to Isaac,and to Jacob,to them and their descendantsafterthem.'
by lovingthe LORDyour God,by obeyingHis voice,and by holdingfastto Him; for thisis your lifeand the lengthof your days,that you may livein the landwhichthe LORDsworeto your fathers,to Abraham,Isaac,and Jacob,to givethem."
Then the LORDsaidto him, "Thisis the landwhichI sworeto Abraham,Isaac,and Jacob,saying,'I will giveit to your descendants;I have let you see[it] with your eyes,but you shall not gooverthere."
"Then it shall comeabout whenthe LORDyour Godbringsyou into the landwhichHe sworeto your fathers,Abraham,Isaacand Jacob,to giveyou, greatand splendidcitieswhichyou did not build,
"It is not for your righteousnessor for the uprightnessof your heartthat you are goingto possesstheir land,but [it is] becauseof the wickednessof thesenations[that] the LORDyour Godis drivingthem out beforeyou, in orderto confirmthe oathwhichthe LORDsworeto your fathers,to Abraham,Isaacand Jacob.
Allthesediedin faith,withoutreceivingthe promises,but having seenthem and having welcomedthem from a distance,and having confessedthat they were strangersand exileson the earth.
By faithAbraham,when he was called,obeyedby goingout to a placewhichhe was to receivefor an inheritance;and he wentout, not knowingwherehe was going.
"Be strongand courageous,for you shall givethispeoplepossessionof the landwhichI sworeto their fathersto givethem.
When they cameto the regionof the Jordanwhichis in the landof Canaan,the sonsof Reubenand the sonsof Gadand the half-tribeof Manassehbuiltan altarthereby the Jordan,a largealtarin appearance.
ThenJoshuabuiltan altarto the LORD,the Godof Israel,in MountEbal,
Then Gideonbuiltan altarthereto the LORDand namedit The LORDis Peace.To thisdayit is stillin Ophrahof the Abiezrites.
Then his return[was] to Ramah,for his house[was] there,and therehe judgedIsrael;and he builttherean altarto the LORD.
