They saidto oneanother,"Come,let us makebricksand burn[them] thoroughly."And they usedbrickfor stone,and they usedtarfor mortar.
They said,"Come,let us buildfor ourselves a city,and a towerwhose top[will reach] into heaven,and let us makefor ourselves a name,otherwisewe will be scatteredabroad overthe faceof the wholeearth."
"Come,let Us godownand thereconfusetheir language,sothat they will not understandoneanother'sspeech."
Now the valleyof Siddimwas full of tarpits;and the kingsof Sodomand Gomorrahfled,and they fellinto them. But those who survivedfledto the hillcountry.
He also broughtout the peoplewhowere in it, and set[them] under saws,sharpironinstruments,and ironaxes,and made them passthrough the brickkiln.And thushe didto allthe citiesof the sonsof Ammon.Then Davidand allthe peoplereturned[to] Jerusalem.
They holdfastto themselves an evilpurpose;They talkof layingsnaressecretly;They say,"Whocan seethem?"
and they madetheir livesbitterwith hardlaborin mortarand bricksand at all[kinds] of laborin the field,alltheir laborswhichthey rigorouslyimposedon them.
But when she couldhidehim nolonger,she gothim a wickerbasketand coveredit over with tarand pitch.Then she putthe childinto it and set[it] among the reedsby the bankof the Nile.
Ifthey say,"Comewith us, Let us liein waitfor blood,Let us ambushthe innocentwithoutcause;
I saidto myself,"Comenow,I will testyou with pleasure.So enjoyyourself." And behold,it toowas futility.
"So nowlet Me tellyou whatI am going to doto My vineyard:I will removeits hedgeand it will be consumed;I will breakdownits walland it will becometrampledground.
A peoplewho continuallyprovokeMe to My face,Offeringsacrificesin gardensand burningincenseon bricks;
"The brickshave fallendown,But we will rebuildwith smoothstones;The sycamoreshave been cutdown,But we will replace[them] with cedars."
Drawfor yourself waterfor the siege!Strengthenyour fortifications!Gointo the clayand treadthe mortar!Takeholdof the brickmold!
and let us considerhow to stimulateone anotherto loveand gooddeeds,
But encourageone anotherdayafterday,as longas it is [still] called"Today,"sothat noneof you will be hardenedby the deceitfulnessof sin.
Comenow,you who say,"Todayortomorrowwe will goto such and sucha city,and spenda yearthereand engage in businessand makea profit."
Comenow,you rich,weepand howlfor your miserieswhich are comingupon you.
