Now in the secondyearof their comingto the houseof Godat Jerusalemin the secondmonth,Zerubbabelthe sonof Shealtieland Jeshuathe sonof Jozadakand the restof their brothersthe priestsand the Levites,and allwho camefrom the captivityto Jerusalem,began[the work] and appointedthe Levitesfrom twentyyearsand olderto overseethe workof the houseof the LORD.
Of these,24000were to overseethe workof the houseof the LORD;and 6,000[were] officersand judges,
The sonsof Jeconiah,the prisoner,[were] Shealtielhis son,
Amongthe sonsof the priestswhohad marriedforeignwiveswere foundof the sonsof Jeshuathe sonof Jozadak,and his brothers:Maaseiah,Eliezer,Jariband Gedaliah.
Thesecamewith Zerubbabel,Jeshua,Nehemiah,Seraiah,Reelaiah,Mordecai,Bilshan,Mispar,Bigvai,Rehum[and] Baanah.The numberof the menof the peopleof Israel:
Then Jeshuathe sonof Jozadakand his brothersthe priests,and Zerubbabelthe sonof Shealtieland his brothersaroseand builtthe altarof the Godof Israelto offerburntofferingson it, as it is writtenin the lawof Moses,the manof God.
Thenworkon the houseof Godin Jerusalemceased,and it was stoppeduntilthe secondyearof the reignof Dariuskingof Persia.
But Zerubbabeland Jeshuaand the restof the headsof fathers'[households] of Israelsaidto them, "You have nothingin common with us in buildinga houseto our God;but we ourselveswill togetherbuildto the LORDGodof Israel,as KingCyrus,the kingof Persiahas commandedus."
Thenthat Sheshbazzarcame[and] laidthe foundationsof the houseof Godin Jerusalem;and from thenuntilnowit has been underconstructionand it is not [yet] completed.'
thenZerubbabelthe sonof Shealtieland Jeshuathe sonof Jozadakaroseand beganto rebuildthe houseof Godwhichis in Jerusalem;and the prophetsof Godwere with them supportingthem.
In the secondyearof Dariusthe king,on the firstdayof the sixthmonth,the wordof the LORDcameby the prophetHaggaito Zerubbabelthe sonof Shealtiel,governorof Judah,and to Joshuathe sonof Jehozadak,the highpriest,saying,
"The handsof Zerubbabelhave laidthe foundationof thishouse,and his handswill finish[it]. Then you will knowthat the LORDof hostshas sentme to you.
"Then sayto him, 'Thussaysthe LORDof hosts,"Behold,a manwhose nameis Branch,for He will branchout from whereHe is; and He will buildthe templeof the LORD.
from thirtyyearsand upward,even to fiftyyearsold,allwho enterthe serviceto dothe workin the tentof meeting.
