"Behold,though it is planted,will it thrive?Will it not completelywitheras soon as the eastwindstrikesit-- witheron the bedswhereit grew?"'"
Then behold,sevenears,thinand scorchedby the eastwind,sproutedup afterthem.

In that timeit will be saidto thispeopleand to Jerusalem,"A scorchingwindfrom the bareheightsin the wildernessin the directionof the daughterof My people--not to winnowand not to cleanse,
Moreover, the wordof the LORDcameto me, saying,
"Say,'Thussaysthe LordGOD,"Will it thrive?Will he not pullup its rootsand cutoffits fruit,so that it withers--so that allits sproutingleaveswither?And neitherby greatstrengthnorby manypeoplecan it be raisedfrom its roots[again].
Ephraimfeedson wind,And pursuesthe eastwindcontinually;He multipliesliesand violence.Moreover, he makesa covenantwith Assyria,And oilis carriedto Egypt.
Thoughhe flourishesamongthe reeds,An eastwindwill come,The windof the LORDcomingup from the wilderness;And his fountainwill becomedryAnd his springwill be driedup; It will plunder[his] treasuryof everypreciousarticle.
Seeinga lonefigtreeby the road,He cameto it and foundnothingon it exceptleavesonly;and He saidto it, "Nolongershall there everbe [any] fruitfrom you." And at oncethe fig treewithered.
As they were passingby in the morning,they sawthe fig treewitheredfrom the roots[up].
"Ifanyonedoes not abidein Me, he is thrownawayas a branchand driesup; and they gatherthem, and castthem into the fireand they are burned.
These are the menwho are hidden reefsin your love feastswhen they feastwith you without fear,caringfor themselves;cloudswithout water,carried alongby winds;autumntreeswithout fruit,doublydead,uprooted;
