Becauseallhis dayshis taskis painfuland grievous;evenat nighthis minddoes not rest.Thistoois vanity.
Then to AdamHe said,"Becauseyou have listenedto the voiceof your wife,and have eatenfrom the treeabout whichI commandedyou, saying,'You shall not eatfrom it'; Cursedis the groundbecauseof you; In toilyou will eatof it Allthe daysof your life.
So Jacobsaidto Pharaoh,"The yearsof my sojourningare one hundredand thirty;fewand unpleasanthave beenthe yearsof my life,norhave they attainedthe yearsthat my fatherslivedduring the daysof their sojourning."
During that nightthe kingcouldnot sleepso he gavean orderto bringthe bookof records,the chronicles,and they were readbeforethe king.
"Man,who is bornof woman,Is short-livedand fullof turmoil.
For manis bornfor trouble,As sparksflyupward.
It is vainfor you to riseup early,To retirelate,To eatthe breadof painfullabors;For He givesto His beloved[even in his] sleep.
For dayand nightYour handwas heavyupon me; My vitalitywas drainedaway [as] with the feverheatof summer.Selah.
Makeus gladaccording to the daysYou have afflictedus, [And] the yearswe have seenevil.
And I setmy mindto seekand exploreby wisdomconcerningallthat has been doneunderheaven.[It] is a grievoustask[which] Godhas givento the sonsof mento be afflictedwith.
Becausein muchwisdomthere is muchgrief,and increasingknowledge[results in] increasingpain.
Thus I consideredallmy activitieswhichmy handshad doneand the laborwhichI had exerted,and beholdallwas vanityand strivingafter windand therewas noprofitunderthe sun.
The sleepof the workingman is pleasant,whetherhe eatslittleor much;but the fullstomachof the richmandoes not allowhim to sleep.
Throughouthis life[he] alsoeatsin darknesswith greatvexation,sicknessand anger.
WhenI gavemy heartto knowwisdomand to seethe taskwhichhas been doneon the earth(eventhoughoneshould neversleepdayor night),
Thenthe kingwentoffto his palaceand spentthe nightfasting,and noentertainmentwas broughtbeforehim; and his sleepfledfrom him.
strengtheningthe soulsof the disciples,encouragingthem to continuein the faith,and [saying], "Throughmanytribulationswe mustenterthe kingdomof God."
