"Then it shall comeabout whenthe LORDyour Godbringsyou into the landwhichHe sworeto your fathers,Abraham,Isaacand Jacob,to giveyou, greatand splendidcitieswhichyou did not build,
On that daythe LORDmadea covenantwith Abram,saying,"To your descendantsI have giventhisland,From the riverof Egyptas faras the greatriver,the riverEuphrates:
"Sojournin thislandand I will be with you and blessyou, for to you and to your descendantsI will givealltheselands,and I will establishthe oathwhichI sworeto your fatherAbraham.
And behold,the LORDstoodaboveit and said,"I am the LORD,the Godof your fatherAbrahamand the Godof Isaac;the landon whichyou lie,I will giveit to you and to your descendants.
"They capturedfortifiedcitiesand a fertileland.They tookpossessionof housesfullof everygoodthing,Hewncisterns,vineyards,olivegroves,Fruittreesin abundance.So they ate,were filledand grewfat,And reveledin Your greatgoodness.
He gavethem also the landsof the nations,That they might takepossessionof [the fruit of] the peoples'labor,
He also droveout the nationsbeforethem And apportionedthem for an inheritanceby measurement,And made the tribesof Israeldwellin their tents.
See,I have placedthe landbeforeyou; goin and possessthe landwhichthe LORDsworeto giveto your fathers,to Abraham,to Isaac,and to Jacob,to them and their descendantsafterthem.'
"Whenthe LORDyour Godcutsoffthe nations,whoselandthe LORDyour Godgivesyou, and you dispossessthem and settlein their citiesand in their houses,
"For when I bringthem into the landflowingwith milkand honey,whichI sworeto their fathers,and they have eatenand are satisfiedand becomeprosperous,then they will turnto othergodsand servethem, and spurnMe and breakMy covenant.
"You shall dowhat is rightand goodin the sightof the LORD,that it may be wellwith you and that you may goin and possessthe goodlandwhichthe LORDsworeto [give] your fathers,
He broughtus out from therein orderto bringus in, to giveus the landwhichHe had swornto our fathers.'
otherwise,when you have eatenand are satisfied,and have builtgoodhousesand lived[in them],
"Hear,O Israel!You are crossingoverthe Jordantodayto goin to dispossessnationsgreaterand mightierthanyou, greatcitiesfortifiedto heaven,
I gaveyou a landon whichyou had not labored,and citieswhichyou had not built,and you have livedin them; you are eatingof vineyardsand olivegroveswhichyou did not plant.'
